I am the owner of 2 laptops that I use at home. Being partially handicapped I spend a great deal of my time in my easy chair and I have found that the power plug on the AC adapter gets bumped on the side of the arm rest of my chair. I have had to purchase 2 extra power adapters due to the wires getting broken down at the bitter end of the plug. Currently I am waiting for a call from the local tech to come over with my 3rd adapter in order to get my system back up to 100% operating condition, having suffered another broken connector just this week.
One of my computers has the power adapter port on the back of the motherboard while my latest system has the port on the right side. In each case the power plug and wires stick straight out from the appropriate side and extend over 1 inch. This causes the wire on the adapter to have a loop over 1.5 inches. This loop is the main reason for the breakage of the wires.
The damage could be mitigated if the adapter wire had a 90 degree connector rather than the current 180 degree alignment. I would not be opposed to purchasing such a dongle should it become available. I do suggest a dongle over a complete restyle of the plug system as users not using the laptop as a true lap-top might have similar results while trying to use the AC adapter should the adapter be fitted with a 90 degree plug.
