Ideastorm needs to be closed because:

1. There are very few new ideas
2. There are very few visitors anymore
3. It has fulfilled it's marketing pitch
4. No ideas of substantial value are being implemented any more
5. Many easy fix ideas are being overlooked (ignored)
6. Duplicates ideas are no longer merged
7. There appears a a general fall in moderation
8. There remains almost no participation of Dell on this site
9. Few ideas are getting status updates and some from 2 years ago remain without an update of any kind
10. Dell announced an environmental  competition on ideastorm more than a year ago and never announced the winners.... That warrants some kind of investigation.

So close ideastorm, it no longer fulfuls a purpose, commit it to the archives.

Thanks.

haloman- you mean like our elected officials?

Seems the 'problem' is common to MAN and can be seen all around the globe.

I DON'T know, however, that EVERY culture is so infected.

Long time not posting, ive been doing some work at school and am managing a group researching the stupidity of our current and past US government.(Obama winning a nobel prize? Where did that come from!) havent caught up yet but im going to responed to badbloods post in a first come to mind process.

@badblood... its just like a company to get so into itself that they forget who the reall boss is and who got them were they are_us! Without the consumers to buy your products dell, you are nothing. Just be happy most people are content to what is given to them. People today are more interested in what rock star cheated on who rather than what advancements, we as a race, are coming up with_ergo, they dont think more can be asked and should be given to us from you at a technical standpoint. Who had the great idea of having non technical people provide technical support! Im sure the briliant mind that came up with this cared more about cost than the quality of support we would get. Companys are now more than ever more interested in profit margins and stock holders than the actual reason the company started_to provide the consumer with the best quality product they can possibly make. A company going public apperantly is the catalyst to their detachment from what is best for the customer to what is best for the company(profits). Exp. Im fairly sure that if ATT really cared about providing the best service and support to their customers instead of how much they can rob from them... we would have an all fiber optic network by now with soo little problems that support would rarelly be called on_ saving them expenses on holding a large support staff and making us a little happier inside alltogether.

I used to use SeaMonkey's editor but iWeb is so easy.  I'm not building a site for NASA or anything, just personal stuff.

jervis961: I'm not sure how much web design experience you've had, but considering that the software is already there (see http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com) it shouldn't be a problem to find an artist to redesign some of the images to make it more personalized. We would just need a server...

Social media are useful--even necessary--for a fashion company.  DELL has been in the fashion trade for quite a while now.  Dell is the computer company who puts “you can chose your color” on billboards.  DELL sells color coordinated computers on looks and experience instead of processing power or reliability.  The features promoted by DELL, connectivity and graphics, are more fashion and social than productivity.  Netbooks are not about productivity; they are about connecting.  The netbook is more a twitter box than a business box.

@jmxz...If you're serious about starting an open forum style, tech web site, be sure to post the url or link here on this site. I'm sure that any of the old regulars would like to participate if they knew about it. There have been a lot of knowledgeable, articulate (and outspoken) people on here in the past. If you could attract enough of them to form a regular core group of participants, I think you could grow the site fairly rapidly. Not over night of course. But over a reasonable amount of time.

There's a little trick to self promoting on the Internet that could speed up it's growth. Anytime any of the regulars visit another site, like CNET, Computerworld, Infoworld, PCWorld, etc. Find a topic with a lot of interest and comments. Make a comment and quote from a pertinent comment on your web site and provide a link or the url. If there isn't a pertinent comment to point to, create one.:) Doesn't work well on every web site, but quite a few.

Dells priority has become social media. I can`t compare my small biz. to Dells, but I have learned what is best for my business. Social media has nothing to do with my business. Facebook, My Space, and Twitter have nothing to do with the every day reality of business. It`s not even the best way to advertise.
If you follow any of these social media sites, and follow the limited one liners what have you learned. The more society follows these sites, the less independent thinking occurs, in my opinion. Social media certainly isn`t selling my business or Dells. Some sites are helpful, such as Dell`s small business blog and a few others. That kind of information people will read.
