Hi,

Dell planned to include tape reader ? (kidding)

My usage is mainly around desktop (learning, video and network)
I'm used to the lack of autonomy of my laptops. And I always have a DC plug around - above all in travel.

The issues I meet with actual models :
- optic drives are useless
- too much free space (virtualization/Clouds offers good synch solutions)
- the native keyboard are less effective
- hard drive (5400rpm) slows down the OS
- battery adds to laptop's weight
- heat dissipation without structure help (heat points)

So I think Dell can make a portable (like a tablet but without touch capabilities) which might have :
- very powerfull CPU (Corei5)
- much memory extendable
- spécific removable flash memory for the swap file
- SSD or no drives (OS on flash memory)
- very little autonomy (slim and wide battery)
- no noise or heat
- low cost

interested?

A very interesting idea and I've seen other posts about similar laptops, but they had keyboards.
I think what DELL should offer is a laptop that goes against the norm and makes a new segment.
Sleek, beautiful, cheap and powerful enough for most of the users.

    SPECS:
    - One model only to make the production costs as low as possible
    - Body made of polycarbonate (durable plastic) with a matte finish
    - Unibody for durability and less screws needed
    - No optical drive
    - 14'' 1600x900 screen in a 13.3 PC
    - 4x USB 3.0
    - 8GB RAM
    - 128GB SSD
    - intel Ivy Bridge i5 (dual core) with intel HD 4000
    - cheaper and better cooling by combining copper and graphene [LINK]
    - silent fans - they will not spin up, but stay at a set speed

    TO LOWER THE COST:
    - Add pre-installed programs from partners
    - A charger is the only accessory included
    - Online instruction booklet only, but you do get a quick guide in English - the first page has the link explained in several languages

tivirus - Can you explain a bit more how the user of the system will interact with it since you propose not having a touch screen?
