One of the biggest factors that affect computer speed is the fan.
If there are so many dusts on the fan, laptop will get hot easily and will not perform well.
Based on my experience every time I clean the fan, my laptops worked like new.
Problem is it's too hard to remove all components.
So I wish there was a seperate cover over the fan that I can remove and clean the fan easily.
Regards.

Great idea! I would disagree with you about the 3 year thing. I have a 5 year old Inspiron 6400 that has had heavy usage for 4 years it is about 5 year old. However I have generally used it with a USB cooling pad. Its still going strong. My sister also had one a year and a bit older with less heavy use and no cooling pad and its also still going strong. My 6400 might of broke like yours without the cooling pad however.natakuc4

Most people know how I am on this issue so I won't repeat myself.Hyncharas
On anohter point, would it be possible to review to install fans made of non-magnetic materials, further reducing the amount of dust accumulated?

Thank you for valuing our ideas.2 things comes to my mind when we talk about dell
1. User friendly ( I agree)
2. Does not last more than 3 years?
I have used several different models. My last one Inspiron 6400 is older than 6 years. 3 years later it stopped working. But I did not give up. Tried to figure out the problem and found the cpu was burned. The fan was not working properly, due to dust. Then I changed the fan and cpu it works like new.

Thank you for the idea submission. While the utility of this idea is logical- and we have done this in the past and still do on some models- it is a consideration we have to review with each different platform on a case by case basis. For instance, in an Ultrabook we may be trying to achieve a target weight or Z height specification that prevents easy fan access. I would say we consider fan maintenance on every platform and implement it where we can. This idea could be considered "Under Permanent and Ongoing Review." :)Feb 19, 2012 Comment Link

Cleaning the fan is not something common. Maybe twice a year. Usually fans are rectangular and you can't take the dust on the corners. That also makes irritating sound. So vacuum will not do the work right.Regards.

A very nice suggstion! The easiest way to remove dust from laptops where you have no access to the fan(s) is to use a vacuum cleaner on all ports and ventilation holes. Do note that the laptop should be turned off before you do this. To be extra safe, you can buy an addon to your vacuum cleaner which doesn't create static electricity.StigtriX
