USB 3.0 Motherboards

A motherboard with integrated USB 3.0 would be nice.
A number of other companies are now selling desktop computers with integrated USB 3.0 motherboards, not a separate card. In Dell and Alienware, if you want dual graphic cards, there is no room for a USB 3.0 controller card, due to not having enough PCI-e slots. So if you want high-end graphics control, you have no high-speed file transfer, and vice versa. Are Dell and Alienware getting left behind in the "cutting edge" department?

Intel has asked companies like Dell to hold off on USB 3.0 because Intel is coming out with their own chipset to handle USB 3.0. Basically Intel has not been producing controllers for USB 3.0 other companies have. Intel wants the money that comes with large chip sales. So basically Intel put Dell under their thumb and said wait and eat it.

@william_j I think the crux of the idea is to have the 3.0 ports integrated on the motherboard. M6500 has an I/O board for the 3.0 port (D P/N RMNKT). I need to double check, but I'm fairly certain all our currently shipping systems with a 3.0 port(s) use I/O boards.Jan 4, 2011 Comment Link
