Instead of regular windows or tabs, it would be nice to open side-by-side views on the entire screen. When I want to pay bills or check my emails, my toddlers like to sit on my lap and watch youtube videos of elmo. Since the kids are too little to play with the computer themselves, it would be easier to have a complete split screen rather than bouncing between akward shaped windows. I think any mother with a young child would love this! As we love to multi-task!

Yes snap feature in 7, can be done by dragging a window to the far left or far right (alternatively press the windows key and a directional arrow key together).

As sugarbear mentioned it sounds like you are describing the Snap feature in Windows 7.  The link shows a video of how it works.  Is that what you were thinking or perhaps somethign else?  Another option would be an additional monitor, one for you and one for your child to watch the video on.  It all depends on what your system can handle.

You can do that now by clicking and dragging the windows to the shape you want them. I often have a split screen.
