Update Vostro 3550 AMD 6630/Intel HD 3000 Switchable Drivers

I just bought a Vostro 3550 for my sister a few weeks back and she is a fairly avid gamer. I specifically went for the Vostro 3550 for the fact that it is made better than the Inspiron series and has a nice graphics card, along with Sandy Bridge CPUs. One game she plays is Brink, which requires OpenGL 3.1. With the switchable graphics that Dell has implemented in the 3550, the Intel part of the driver is older than the April 29, 2011 driver update that Intel put out which supports OpenGL 3.1. Why does the Intel driver need to support OpenGL 3.1? Because the card that Brink detects is the Intel. Since the 6xxx series AMD cards use PowerPlay, it only switches to the discrete card based on a program list. My 5xxx series card in my laptop (non-Dell) doesn't have the app-based switching. It's either in High Performance or Longer Battery mode. So the long and the short of it is that Dell needs to update the drivers for the Vostro 3550 that include newer Intel driver components along with the AMD drivers. These types of things are OEM custom so using an AMD driver won't work. Installing the Intel and AMD separately disables the AMD card completely. So Dell, please update this. The switchable graphics works for some applications and not for others.

@ daybson, The latest driver I can find and have installed is 12.1 which is january. Try this link:

    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/12-1_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

I got that link last year that someone posted earlier in this thread and the idea is to just change the year and month in that url for the latest drivers. I changed it from 11-10 but the latest month and year is 12.1. I've no idea why there's nothing for later months. And you're right, I tried the verification tool and it doesn't work.

Does anybody knows if they have a solution like this for a Vostro 3460 with a N-Vidia GeForce GT 630M ?

The Catalyst isn't update through the ATI site. The AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool is incompatible with switchable graphics.
We can't update the drivers for Catalyst.

    Thanks for solving this problem.

    - Updated PowerDVD
    - Updated Graphics Card Driver with this driver (AMD Radeon Mobility Sept'2011 driver)
    - Updated BIOS for 3450 A07, available here
    - Apply the BIOS update, bear with the beeps and voilà, all done

open Catalyst Control Center, under Power select Switchable Graphics Method, then change to Manual Method, pick ATI card, you will then see the ATI card in PS

    damn finally

Hi.  Is this thread still going, or switched somewhere else.
    I bought a V3450 with AMD HD6630M switchable graphics.
I have had a lot of problems including not being able to use the AMD card and also pointer freezes requiring forced shutdown.  I have reinstalled many times.  Installed and not installed the Intel Media Component offered by the AMD installation, as recommended somewhere else. etc.  Anyway I would like to give and receive full details, so is this thread still active? Thanks.

I still think that this should be an option in bios so I made this post http://www.ideastorm.com/ideaView?id=087700000008alWAAQ

Anyone who has the same opinion please post comments there
