My idea is to create a 3D printer using paper. There are two type of papers involved... thin and thick. The thin paper is to print items like origami. You can print a 3D folding plane to a 3D Japanese dinosaurs origami. I'm sure all kids would love this.Using thicker paper an architect or engineer can print parts of building with ease. These prnted parts can then be attached together. It is much cheaper than using the current printer technology. This is my dream. Every house will have this soon.
As a leader in the personal computing arena, Dell should reach out to other computer and accessory manufacturers and develop a printer that will use the same ink cartridge, no matter the brand. This would be similar to the consultations that lead cell phone manufacturers to adopt the micro-USB as a standard charger, no matter the brand of phone.
I'm very pleased with the purchase of a DELL 1350cnw (color laser network printer) for our home and small business needs. However as more mobile devices become the norm, it would be beneficial for Dell to provide support for printing from these types of devices.HP, Canon, and Epson all have apps in Apple's App Store for iOS devices to print to those brands' networked printers. Where is Dell's app? It's difficult for me to recommend Dell printers to business associates, friends and family with such a limitation, "...cannot print from your cool new iOS (or Android) device." I'm more likely to recommend one of those other brands with wide selection of solutions for network printing across multiple devices and OSs.It's going to be critical in the future for Dell to support on these OS's and alternative devices soon. Without it, fewer people will even consider Dell as a possible solution provider. The Dell network printers support a multitude of print server protocols. It should take minimal effort to code an app to check the local network (or even support VPN) for Dell printers and allow users to send files to it.Overall, this should be an easy and low cost solution for Dell to expand their customer base. As the number of mobile devices start to overshadow the number of humans, Dell needs to capitalize on the opportunity. It would be a great selling point on all Dell's networked printers, "Print directly from your iOS or Android device."Staus Update: Please see paul_n's comment for further details. Make a manual paper feed tray take everything from 3x5 to 8.5x14. Cards, envelopes, etc - we all need a manual paper feed tray that will accept all sorts of paper and print them in the correct spots on the paper.
I've LONG admired the Tektronix line of COLOR printers, including their fast and more environmentally friendly SOLID INK printers. However, I'll take HP printers over any current DELL printer ANY DAY. In order to really compete with HP, I'd suggest Dell partner with Xerox and ESPECIALLY promote the SOLID INK line! I have always tended to be loyal to one company. My loyalty to Dell, however, has worn thin.
We bought a Dell 5110cn laser printer last year and the default input tray supports 500 pages. Unfortunately, the output tray only supports 250 pages and for jobs larger than 250 pages, the printer pauses printing after it reaches 250. It will then resume once the printed paper have been removed. This is inconvenient and doesn't make sense. I suggest that you build an output tray that will mimimally support the input tray amount. Dell should make a printer that can print on paper without using ink. Instead the printer could have a laser that burns the text/photo onto paper. I'm not sure what color the laser will print but if the laser burns the paper it'll probably be black or brown. The printer should still include ink cartridges but when people print they should be able to choose laser or ink cartridge. The laser burning should not make the paper catch fire. It should work on normal paper.

Now that DELL computers AND printers are starting to be sold at Best Buy, I believe that selling Dell Ink and possibly more Dell Printers at Best Buy is a good step to take for DELL. Maybe selling more Dell printers would be a good thing when DELL ink is easier to get or at least its sold in the same plac e the printer is being sold. The reality is that buying Dell ink is a total hassle for some people. My mother in law has spent hours waiting on the phone trying to order an ink only to get the wrong ink sent to her in the mail and sometimes even faulty ink that didnt work. You might say, order it online, its faster, but when she tried that they also sent her the wrong ink. This is not an efficient way of handeling the retail of a product that needs to be replaced every so often. This ineficiency pushes costumers just as her to go to the local Walgreen's store or Office Max to simply refill the cartriges (which is cheaper too), hanging dell to dry in this department. The recent contract that allows dell to sell ink at Staples is a very good step forward, but I think its not enough. I mean, we dont even have a Staples here in Puerto Rico. But we do have Best Buy (as of yesterday actually :D). Lets get DELL ink into other major stores like Best Buy. The truth is that this kind of hassle of having to order your ink makes me shy away from buying any DELL printer. Why buy a DELL printer if I can buy an HP printer and get the ink anywhere I want? Older people prefer to get in their cars and drive to a store to buy things, instead of logging in and trying to buy it online. And trust me, with the amount of baby boomers around, you would benefit a lot from making this kind of changes. EDIT: **************************** Best buy has the product red printer. Seriously, if you are going to sell the printers at Best Buy, you need to sell ink there too. If someone is going to buy that printer, many will ask: "Ok what ink do I buy for it?" because many people when they buy a new printer take extra ink cartridges. The Best BUy person will then tell them that they will have to go online to order the ink. What do you think many people will do on that moment? Many will simply say, thats not pratical at all, I want my ink now and NOT buy the printer. Plus, the person doesnt even know how the dell ink service works online, so he will have to make a decission on a purchase he doesnt even know how its going to work out or doesnt even know how much the ink is worth because he cant see it infront of him. Many people will simply NOT buy the printer due to this uncertainty especially older people who find internet a scary business. The availability of Dell printers at Best Buy makes the availability of Dell Inks at Best Buy even more needed. Thanks! Status Update Please see paul_n's comment
There should be modern colors for dell printers available, such as grey or black. Or any other colors that the customer would want to match their interior designs of their homes. Status Update Please see paul_n's comment
