New recovery option idea: SupportAssist Factory Re-Image USB

Nov 12, 2017

Status: Acknowledged

I give kudos to Dell for providing two options for recovering a system: SupportAssist OS Recovery (on separate partition; used in conjunction with Factory Image Restore), and downloadable "vanilla" OS recovery media. This gives the user options on bringing back a computer to life. However, on the SupportAssist OS Recovery method, it is lost when the vanilla media is used to re-image the hard drive. And there is no way to restore the "full" factory image (with the operating system, apps & drivers preinstalled; as if you were setting up a new Dell PC) after that.So my idea for more recovery options is:  Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery (Factory Image Restore) - Used to back up files, diagnose, repair, or restore the entire computer to factory settings.Dell SupportAssist Factory Re-Image USB (must be downloaded) - Same as above, but can also be used for "bare-metal recovery" (blank hard drive).Operating System Recovery Media (must be downloaded) - For advanced (and adventurous) users, this media contains a "vanilla" image of Windows 10, without the Dell pre-installed drivers and apps. Useful if user doesn't wants a "clean" Windows without the bloatware. These options would benefit the user, if a restore is ever needed.

120 Hz Monitor option on the New Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7000 (7577) and White Letters Option

Hey all,I really want to push Dell to implement a 120 hz monitor option on their new laptop of the 7000 gaming line. A quality gaming experience really needs a higher refresh rate than just the standard 120 hz. For people like myself, a higher refresh rate really improves the game quality of FPS and is just an overall smoother experience in and outside of gaming. I understand that the Alienware line has the 120 hz option, but as a consumer, not everyone wants a flashy Alienware.I don't anything that screams, "GAMING" and from what I have seen other people feel the same way.  As for the white letters on the keyboard option, it could help some people see the keyboard better because the red is really dark on the black.Other companies such as HP have implemented this in their Omen 2017 gaming laptop line for an extra $60 and I really want the same to be available for the Dell gaming laptops. I would not hesitate to spend the extra money for the better refresh rate. Dell, you have been highly criticized for the display that lacks on your 5000 gaming line and if you guys could implement this option as soon as possible on the new 7000, it would be amazing!

Dell Premier Ordering Site

Dell needs to have a "reorder" option for past orders.  I have several staple products (ie.. printer toner) that I order every month and what a hassle it is to find the toner I need.   Right now I go to: Shop > Assessories & Peripherals > Printers, Ink and Toner > Color Laser > Model > Select Item > Order, done. Why not have an option within past orders and/or within your profile have a list of prevously ordered items with the "Order Again" option.    Future menus then would be:   Shop > Previous Ordered Items > Select Item > Order, Done.Better yet, also give customers an option of "automatic" reoccuring ordering and shipping.  Send this shipment every month or whatever the timeline the customer sets. My time becomes more efficient and Dell still gets a sale on a reoccuring order.  Customer satisfaction.

Upgrade Parts Availability and Inventory

Oct 25, 2017

Things have been really heading South between Dell and me lately.   Within 2 weeks I now have two products, of which I've been trying to purchase additional supplies for and I cannot.1) MD 3220i Storage Array.    Consists of 12, 7200rpm 500G drives.     I would like to expand my array by adding more hard drives.  Can I do that?   No. Dell doesn't carry these anymore.    Can I just get any 2.5" 7200rpm drive and use it?   No.  Has to be Dell branded with the firmware that is compatible with a Dell 3220i.Only solution - purchase expensive SSD drives and segment my array.  I can still extend my warranty for another 2 years, but the upgrades for it will be non-existant.2) Dell M115HD projectorAttempted to get a new bulb for it today.   Dell rep says, "Sorry, this part is not avialable and we won't know when it will be."    Unit was purchased in 2014 with a 30,000 hr bulb.  That's around 3.4 years of use. We didn't even get to a fraction of that and now this part is unavailable.  That would significantly imply that Dell has ran out of these bulbs because everyone else who purchased this M115HD has also burned out their bulb?As reference: Remember the Dell 1765C printer that Dell used to sell back in 2013?  In less than 1 year it was removed from the shelf.  No warning. Most companies try to keep their consumables the same so they're not ordering several types of toner.  So what do we tell our clients (one who happens to have bought 5 of these Dell C1765 printers) that they're no longer available?   Typical response from Dell, "Get the new E525".  Great! But are the toners compatible from the C1765 to the E525?   Nope.  If you put them side by side though, you won't be able to tell.  (IDEA) As a dedicated Dell customer and reseller, Dell needs to revamp its inventory process. There is absoluely no reason why any Dell customer should spend this much money and suprisingly find out that: 1) Its unknown as to when parts will be available and 2) Additional parts or upgrades are no longer available (even if your system is under warranty). Many of you should ask your Dell Account Representative:  If I buy this Dell product, will I have the availablity of getting upgrade parts for it in the future?  Granted, we all have our reasonable timelines as to when we can expect a merchant to keep items on hand, but lately, this hasn't been the case.   Everything points to bad logistics on Dell's part and Dell's customers are taking the hit for it.

Bring Back Legacy Wyse Keyboards and Mice

Oct 25, 2017

Status: Acknowledged

As a past client of Wyse, (even after Dell acquired them) Wyse used to include a keyboard and mouse with their thin client models. The great feature with the units we bought in the past, (actual branded Wyse keyboards and mice) was the mouse would plug directly into the keyboard and then the keyboard (via USB) would plug into the Wyse terminal. Now with the 3030 and 3040 the keyboard and mice are just standard parts.  With the extreme compact size of the 3040, why is Dell going backwards with the accessories?    Now I have to run 2 cords to the 3040 instead of one and that doesn't even cover the fact that the laser on the Dell branded mouse is horrible. We never had issues with the Wyse branded units. So in short, my idea is to bring back the PS2 mice the plug directly into the USB keyboard.  Keep things nice and compact like they have always been.

Provide Contact Person for Dell's IdeaStorm

Aug 21, 2017

For Dell, the IdeaStorm is a great tool to interact with the clients and anybody interested in Dell. However, when IdeaStorm members have specific questions about the contest, there is no information about a contact person on Dell's side - for example, with questions regarding the IdeaStorm or the ideas. The provision of contact details would help the customers that they do not feel like interacting with an anonymous homepage - but also with Dell's employee.

Bring Back Alienware 18" Laptops

Bring back the Dell Alienware 18" laptops.I've owned  the XPS 17", the Alienware 17", Precision M6500; I've owned quite a few --  Nothing compares to the Alienware 18R2.Yes, its a gaming machine, but I use mine for day to day business and my 18R2 puts to shame anthing else.I've seen clients pull out their Asus, Sony, HP, ... whatever they have and side by side, it does NOT compare to the Dell AW 18R2.    Quite often I get asked, "Where can I get one of those??"  and sadly I have to tell them "they're no longer available".   Ya, its big, its a bit heavy, but if you want a 18" monitor with horse power enough to drown most workstations, then (IMO) the extra baggage is worth it.  But that drives another question:  Why did Alienware initially make a 18R2?   Then why did they discontinue it?  I think this are all valid questions to ask and Dell should answer them.  So many times we see a product discontinued and no reason as to why. Recently:  I purchased a brand new Precision 7720 (Intel Core i5-7440HQ, 512 SSD, 8G) and a Lattitude 7275 ( 6th Generation Intel Core m7-6Y75 Processor, 256 SSD 8G, last week.  Side by side my 4 year old AW 18R2 crushed both of them.  The only thing that might be tied, is the graphics between the 4k card on the tablet an the 18R2. To the human eye, both were stunning, but lets be real -- Any GPU or CPU intensive tasks on that tablet and you'll be right back here, putting a vote on this page.

Clear cart button

Hi, if I want to make a new order but haven't sent the old one, I have to remove every single item by hand. A "clear cart" button which removes everything from the cart would be a fantastic tool to speed up that process.Regards, F. Esche
