Developing a virtual machine on pluggable accessories which would act as a operating system, is a good idea. By that Virtual machine, you will have a great framework to run a huge computer in a small device as a software. So then, that virtual machine will be flexible and running between heterogenous operating systems by developing in common library, for example, java.

Allow Home Repairs for Renewed Warranties

About a year and a half ago my trackpad stopped functioning completely (a hardware issue) and I needed Dell to fix it. I remember my mother having a hardware issue with her laptop camera years prior and Dell got someone to come to our house and fix it. Dell technical support did not allow me to do that since my warranty expired, so I renewed my warranty, but they then basically said home repairs was the only "feature" unavaible to renewed warranties (past original warranty expiration), why is that? I even asked just to pay for the service directly if renewing the warranty didn't work, that wasn't an option either. As a college student, I had to deal with a broken trackpad for 2 months until the semester ended because I couldn't simply ship my only laptop out for a week during classes. Home Repairs is essential for college students and people with small businesses, etc... as they may not be able to conduct work without a computer. Please let this be something that anyone could have access to if they pay for the service via renewing a warranty or directly.

Bring Back the XPS 14

In 2012, I bought the XPS 14 laptop. I am still using it to this day and it is a brilliant laptop. One of the greatest things about it is its 14 inch screen - the laptop is not too big like a 15 inch yet not too small like a 13 inch. 14 inches is simply a perfect laptop size, especially for college students like me. Please reconsider bringing back the XPS 14 in the future! Maybe even bring it back with that amazing "borderless" XPS 13-style display.

Alienware Tablet

I love the idea of a powerful gaming system and I love Alienware's distinctive and rather innovative design philsophy. If they could nail the mobility form factor as well as they do the other areas, why would you choose anything else!  Anyone remember the M11x ? That thing was amazing, great performance (for that form factor), reasonable price point and ultra mobile. Imagine that as a tablet! So my proposal is for (as the title suggests) an Alienware tablet!- something thats affordable (i.e. at a lower price point that their other mobile offerings- distinctive Innovative designs - preferably android....but that kind of pushes the gaming side of it to one side (with steam etc...) - maybe even an Alienware stream/cloud- Most importantly: allows for on the go gaming power !  I'd love to hear your thoughts  : )

WTX Alienware

Dell, can you revive Intel's WTX motherboard in your Alienware dektops? Intel's specification: http://www.casereview.org/wtx/WTX-Spec-11.pdfAlienware desktops look very compact. By using WTX form factor, users can enforce more hardware control on their systems. Airflow will be better and there'll be more voids. They can install liquid radiators, additional full-lenght GPUs and more hard drives. Currently, installing a liquid-cooled GPU in an Alienware dektop is difficult to achieve.Dell, you can re-design the mainboards of Alienware, can't you? Think of the possibilities. WTX mainboards mean: less-crowded mainboard, more PCIe lanes (and PCIe electrical lanes), more RAM slots or even Dual CPU Alienwares.Respawn the WTX mainboards, Dell?

Alien SDK

Dell, can you release a C/C++ SDK that allows users to build Alienware apps?Currently, AlienFX is limited to Command Center and some games that support it. Unfortunately, the other "alien aspects" (fan table and BIOS, for instance) are locked.Allowing users to build their own Alienware app will enable them to have greater control of their systems. This can even be expanded to an Alienware app center.

Back to basics

Dell Should get back to the basics. Go back to making solid computers/tablets that last a long time. The few extra dollars that it may cost would make Dell Customers happier and it would help to keep customers(this is very important). Don't use a cheaper model of wireless adapter that has issues. Use the better parts and allow the companies that the parts came from, allow for their drivers to install using Windows Updates. Example, Intel Wireless adapters would update through Windows Updates. Nvidia drivers would also update through Windows Updates, Etc... Basic computers with fast processors and allow for large ammounts of RAM. Allow for some type of Thunderbolt connector to allow different of connectors.  Rick

With the advent of the Internet, computing performance is increasingly being utilized in the network. Applications are internet based and network connectivity is central to the platform.         Network performance is a primary determinant of system.          Existing internet connectivity are limited by technology capabilities  WiFi (mbps), 3G (kbps) Processor and cache coupled to Memory and Network. Increasingly applications are internet based. Network performance is a primary determinant of system performance. Conventional computer was a in-the-box solution for desktop applications. The architecture was developed for high performance desktop applications.  Processor, cache (GHz) coupled to high capacity Memory (DRAM). Processor technology speeds is increasing faster than DRAM memory technology. Processor are designed to operate at a high frequency >N Ghz. Caches are coupled to the processor to facilitate execution at high speed. DRAM memory technology is designed for high density >N GB.  As a result the platform is not able to scale to meet the network performance and system performance requirements. Network applications rely of moving data from network to memory and the processor. As a result system performance is determined by bandwidth throughput in the memory. Internet applications are consuming increasing bandwidth and will use > 1 – 10 gbps bandwigth in a mobile platform.  Both Technological and Operational Processor and memory (DRAM) technology have evolved independently to increase system performance. Processors were designed to run at high speeds ( >N GHz) Memory (DRAM) was designed for large capacity ( >N GB) Until recently it was not feasible to integrate multi-mb memory in a processor. Caches were used in the processor with application residing in main memory DRAM. However with technological advances it is now possible to integrate multi-mb memory (SRAM) in a processor. This enables us to re-evaluate the system hierarchy with processor, memory and network. Integrating large memory in the processor allows us to eliminate caches in the design.  Desktop applications were constrained by technology performance. However recently we are seeing a saturation in application performance requirements. The Internet is today the platform for application enabling and the internet operational enablement is a driver of technology growth. Conventional computer platform - Hardware  Processor and cache Memory (DRAM) Network TCP layer, IP layer, Physical layer – LAN, WiFi, WiMax, 3G, 4G Software Application OS Network Stack – Application layer  Proposed Solution (500 words max:) The architecture addresses technology challenges in scaling the next generation internet including efficiency in the data center. In case of operational root cause, please provide an operational solution here. Determine what can be the existing technology limitations / gaps coming in the way of implementation of your operational solution? Please list those as technology problems/issues in section 2. Conventional computing platforms Processor ( > N GHz) Memory ( > N GB) Proposed architecture Network Bandwitdh ( 1 – 10 Gbps ) Stack Machine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stack_machine Processor and memory technology are now capable of integrating multi-mb and multi-ghz designs. There is a diminishing improvement for multi-ghz processor designs as application memory is accessible in memory (DRAM). Proposed architecture Processor and SRAM memory tightly coupled – no caches Generic configurable Network I/O – LAN, WiFi, WiMax, 3G, 4G Programmable Network I/O - Network layers integrated in OS stack Business Impact (500 words max:) High performance general purpose web computing platform – Tightly coupled processor (no caches L1, L2) and memory (SRAM)                                   O(N) Increasing number of devices are being connected to the internet. The internet is an open platform for next generation technologies. Open platforms enable better collaboration and innovation. The future of the internet is mobile as > 1 billion devices go online on IP. The presented architecture is a CMP design based on commodity processor and memory technology. We have a architecture with N processors connected to multi-MB SRAM memory using a shared memory system bus architecture. Number of processor and memory can scale in the power and performance requirements of the platform and the technology generation. A shared memory CMP architecture allows for a turn key, low cost solution to mobile connectivity allowing tight integration of processor technology and application specific software stack. A prototype device for mobile could contain 4 processor cores and N MB of SRAM memory. As the device becomes accessible to more markets we would see increasing accessibility to the internet. Internet accessibility in a low cost device enables scale in markets and applications. The platform uses general purpose processors in a shared memory environment to enable better programmability. Internet platforms enable open standards for technology development.  The architecture is a unified approach to bring next generation low cost, mobile internet. The end user platform is able to scale as per the application requirements and network requirements in a efficient manner to improve cost, time to market, energy and accessibility. It takes computing out of the data center and into end user platform enabling a internet of scale for the next century.
