So quite simple. I would like a XPS 18 with the new Haswell processors. I also expect Intel Graphics 5,000 or better, and better battery life. It also needs 802.11ac. And I hope you keep all the good configurations (i5 with stand and i7 with stand).Just letting you know, my grandfather wants a i5 XPS 18, but I'm telling him to wait for the Haswell version. :)

Windows 8 Reinstallation Media Request and Download Link [Revised]

May 25, 2013

Dell should force Microsoft to provide a direct link to a Windows 8 .iso that is available free of charge for everyone. Microsofts current online distribution mechanism for Windows 8 is awful. It firstly requires the user to have a functional previous version of Windows installed. Next it does not allow the user to select 32 bit or 64 bit only downloading setup files which correspond to the bit of the previous version of WIndows. Finally it requires the user to pay for an additional product key. It should be noted that users already have a product key with preinstalled Windows 8 but it is hidden within the system's BIOS. They cannot use this product key to download a Windows 8 .iso. Right now everything is downloadable except for Windows which is required to run everything else Dell have available to download. The .iso would allow users to download everything they require for clean installation of Windows which is necessary to resolve many software issues including complete corruption of the Operating System due to Viruses/Malware and also allow users to get back on their feet after common hardware failure such as the hard drive failing. The Windows 8.iso would also allow users to perform StartUp Repair and to repair installations. Moreover a clean Install of Windows offers vastly superior performance to the Dell factory settings especially after Service Packs are released and is documented in my worldwide adopted Windows Reinstallation Guide: http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/ In addition there are alot of software issues including out of box experiences, the inability to make recovery media using Dell DataSafe which could all be resolved with a Windows Reinstallation DVD or USB. Note with the Windows Reinstallation USB it should be identical to the Reinstalaltion DVD and not have any bundled drivers or software not present in Microsoft retail Windows DVDs. Otherwise it is as useless as the factory settings. Due to the new product activation in the OEm version fo Windows 8 a generic Windows 8 .iso could be used to Clean Install Windows 8 without the need for phone activation.   Users should be able to: Download a Windows 8 .iso from Microsoft. Procure a Reinstallation DVD or USB with the system at the time of purchase. Dell used to be great at user customisation but their software options have become increasing limited. The reinstallation DVD or USB is an example of this. The current method of getting a Reinstallation DVD or USB is waiting for the system to arrive and then having to contact Dell Technical Support. This forces users to use the factory settings until the DVD or USB arrives. In which case there can be alot of software issues, the XPS 8500 had alot of user out of the box bad experiences which could have been easily resolved if they had the Reinstallation DVD or USB. Bare in mind also there is only a limited time the user has to send back the system and if they are diagnosing an out of the box experience time is lost waiting for the Reinstallation DVD to arrive. There should be an online form to procure Reinstallation DVD/USBs from Dell for customers outside the US. The US form is here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1&DoNotRedirect=y HP for instance have the ability to request media via an online form in the US, Canada, most European countries and elsewhere http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=bph07143 however the HP Recovery Media are equivalent to the Dell DataSafe Media (i.e. factory settings). There has been many a user dissatisfaction for Dell users requesting recovery media in this poll here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/4677/t/19476992.aspx This would improve Dells software services significantly.

Where MS cannot Dell can!  new Apple Air PC alternative. i5/i7 HASWELL options - new core graphics can handle just about anything... 14-15 inch is a missing sweet spot for size replaceable battery - minumum 5 hours of business use / 2.5 gaming use upgradeable memory (4/8GB) offer mSSD slot at least 2x USB 3 with quickcharge Card reader partner with AT&T for business everywhere feature offer compact (cover?) keyboard stylist style pen / touch screen Resolution of 1080p minimum offer travel sleeve offer multiple covers must be <5 lbs... lighter is better 350 nit brightness minimum Nothing listed is technically unreachable and MS seems slow to the table (and undersized for a serious work/play combo device).

I am one of those numerous artist/illustrator who is eagerly waiting for a product ( preferbly AIO ie. Dell XPS one) where I can directly draw on screen with multi-touch capabilitesRight now we are stuck with a single company (Wacom) who is making similar products and their market domination remains strong only becase there is no other big company who is making these kind of products. Their CINTIQ line is not at all satisfactory in terms of cost, usability and convenience.CINTIQEXISTING DELL XPS ONEWhen I first saw the Dell XPS one, It  looked almost perfect! for that use with only one lag.Stylus/pen!if Dell adds a pressure sensitive stylus/pen feature to the exisitng machine. A new maket will be open to harness and  it'll relive those customers who are compromise on costly/worthless product which are not complete. Thanks Dell  for proving a platform to share ideas!

LCD IPS on Alienware 17

If its available on Alinware 14 then why not on A 17? LCD IPS is by no doubt the best display a portable device can ever get (except for maybe an OLED screen .. but no hopes there). It will be amazing to see an IPS display on A 17. And I'm also planning to get an A 17 in the following month and I would definetly pay extra for an IPS Display.

TV Tablet

Someone needs to make a tablet with a focus on tv watching. I can see people taking these on trips and even just carrying them around the house for places they don't have TV's, like the kitchen.  I would even possibly just mount one to the wall, say above the bathroom sink so  can watch tv while getting ready for work.  My idea includes a reasonably large screen, perhaps 10 inches.  It would have a built in digital tuner and wifi.  It would have a focus on viewing apps.  Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and VUDU would be a given as they are the most popular.  A full web browser that supports flash would also be good for those sites that let you log in with your cable provider credentials.  Other app accessibility would not really be needed.  But perhaps email and some social apps would be good.  I'm envisioning something relatively thin that would be made with perhaps some time spent being mounted in mind.  Since it is a tv device, some might like to put it in areas where tv's aren't alwasy easy to put, but would be handy.  Perhaps it could come with a wall mountable frame of sorts that would make it easy to remove the tablet when you wanted to take it on the go.  A discreet power cable that could be pluged in while mounted would also be necessary.

Suggestion For new XPS 14

Jun 12, 2013

First off, a 1080P Screen standard. Think about it, you have 1080P on a 13' and 15' but not 14'?Second, a 28nm GPU with GDDR5. (and 128bit memory) The previous model had a GDDR5 but with only 64 bit memory bus making the GDDR5 only equal to 128 DDR3, the model also had a 40nm GPU which is less efficient and less powerfull.Thirdly, (but somewhat less critical) either make the upcomming model lighter or add a ultra slim optical drive.

this is a repost of the original desktop case design.its still made by me and you wont find it anywhere else than ideastorm.i used about 3-4 months on this design.due to the fact that when i started it i wasnt that good at scaling i made it about double the size of a normal desktop case.if it is to be implemented please rescale it :S because having a super tall computer wouldnt be that great.IMPORTANT!!!: this is a post to improve some of the things i forgot to include to the original post!the USB ports will be on the front above the cd/dvd rom door/latch and you can put around 1-4 USB 2 or 3 ports there if you want to.all other fans/ inputs etc... will also have regular placements as in most other computers.IMPORTANT NOTE TO MODERATORS: you are allowed to change the design of the case so do not sk where you want things because you can just fix that wherever you want :DPictures:ignore the fan placements in the picture above!!!! (THE ONE ABOVE THAT AGAIN IS THE PLACEMENT YOU WANT!)VERY IMPORTANT!: if the moderators at ideastorm wants to remove this one for just being one very similar to my old one please remove the old one instead as this is an improved post!!!

Dell XT4 - Ultrabook convertable with wacom digitizer

Mar 8, 2013

Please build a Dell XT 4 Ultrabook with the latest i7 chipset, minimum 8 Gb of ram, 10 point multi touch screen with wacom digitizer and solid state drive.  Please ensure that the screen can rotate in all directions including 180 degrees and put a hand grip on the bottom so you can hold it when you are working. This system would also run windows 8. Try and keep the weight down as much as possible so that you can use it on the road or in the classroom when you teach. Include a really great screen as well. For presentation mode, you rotate the screen around and you have the option of flipping up two supports that lock into either side of the screen so it holds the screen at a 30 - 45 degree angle.  Then you can easily write on it when presenting to a classroom of students or at a meeting and still see what writing (verses laying it down flat on the table)  Add an extra button at the bottom of the screen so that you can toggle on/off touch recognition for when you only want to use the digitizer (that way the palm of you hand is never detected when only using the digitizer).  Please make sure the digitizer had the "eraser" feature built into the pen so that you can just flip it over and erase anything you want to (just like a pencil). For an option to buy, create a mini bluetooth keyboard with touch pad that you can use to enter text or numbers or make selections when you are operating the hybrid in tablet mode and cannot access your normal keyboard.  You can enter in passwords or the like in tablet mode.  This would also allow to to operate the tablet remotely if giving a presentation.  Beef up the built in microphone with better noise suppression so that its compatible with programs like Dragon Naturally Speaking and Camtasia studio.  That way I can record presentations without having to use a separate microphone if I am sitting in front of it and not have it record the sound of my digitizer. If you could build a robust enough machine with touch and digitizer that is also a hybrid, I would buy it in a hot minute.  I have a Dell XT3 that I love but its heavy and the digitizer is an n-trig. You can then heavily market to schools, hospitals, artists, sales people, and the like. Come on Dell...I know you can build this machine!

The ultimate laptops with infinite battery and highest speed.

We could visualize auch and ultimate laptops with infine battery and highest speed we tend ourself to limit with word that there couldn't be any of such devices. Indeed when I started to think about it I do had the many problems to complete the hypothetical device without any theoretical fault. Back almost half a year ago: I was preparing for the exam when I had my eye over Seebeck engine. It was intresting that while other devices waste their energy over heat it do use the heat to produce energy: but as with second law of thermodynamics we have that no machine is ideal, neither does the Seebeck engine, it do conduct some heat then only producing electricity. But since the engine have the same form of energy in exhaust and input hence we can use multiple engine simultaniously to attain the required efficiency > 50% now in our sytem the cores of laptop or mobile is in the sink inside cover of Seebeck engine. Now the cores are maintained at vero low temperature than environ where we could have superconductor. Now with conducted energy will be less then converted hence some part of the energy produced will be used for maintaining the same internal energy and another fraction to the calculations, and all computer stuffs.
