I would like to see Dell (or other company) provide a 'one stop' unit to go to to maintain IT equipment in good working order throughout its working life. By 'one stop' I mean one unit like a trusted friend who knows about PCs/IT who can put things right and do not 'pass the buck' on to umpteen people. Of course one would not mind paying for that kind of service if it were available. When there is even a minor problem using my IT, I should be able to go to Dell who will sort it out so I can get on with my work. Most senior citizens like myself do not have ready access to trusted experts who can be relied upon to sort out problems. We may be prey to unscrupulous 'comboys' who 'manufacture' a problem in order to hoodwink people to part with their money.

i own an inspirion 14/14z, and i must say, it is impossible to access the hard drive without taking the laptop completely apart. not only is this highly unusual, but it also not a smart idea. i risk voiding my warranty just to replace a HDD? thats insane! i have never before seen laptop that had a hard drive inaccessable from the bottom. maybe back in the 80s or 902(before my time), but as of 2013?! this type of thing quite frankly, is unacceptable. people risk breaking thier laptops just to switch out an HDD. not cool dell. i love dell and alienware, i expect better honestly.dell needs to make it known on the webpages of these laptops, that the hard drive is not removeable from the bottom. this is a deal breaker for me. had i known this was the case, i would have NEVER bought this laptop. the alienware m14(which i also own), is much easier to take out the hard drive than the 14r.suppose what do i do if i have to back up this hard drive now? or replace it if it dies? dell should do an external HDD promo for people who buy this model, because it would be eaiser to back up the drive from time to time rather than replace it.

I have always paid my DFS account by pre-authorized cheque, and I presume that this is standard payment method at Dell. That being the case, why do you send me/us an empty envelope with every monthly statement of the DFS account? The envelopes are not only a waste of paper, but also an unecessary expense. How many envelopes do you send out each month that go unused? Why do you send a monthly statement? Surely Dell can do all of this online. The cost of paper, postage, etc., etc must be considerable. Dell has got to cut costs! You can stop the waste of money, paper, postage, etc., by simply stoping sending envelopes that are not used, and by DFS putting all accounts on line.Frank

Dear Sir,Dell mouse model D PPID-CN-09RRC7-48723-272-OAQJ for my Inspiron 660S had malfunctioned for the fourth time within 9 months after replacement. This shows that there is a serious quality control problem for this peripheral. I would appreciate if Dell Quality Assurance Team could tackle this problem from its source. This is important to maintain the Dell Brand name as a quality and reliable product. For the best interest and the convenience of the customer, I would suggest that Dell could replace the faulty mouse of this model with other more reliable mouse model that is used in the office.Thank you

I have used Dell products for many years and continue to be amazed at the amazingly lousy service. It's totally unacceptable that so much time is wasted waiting to get someone on the phone to resolve an issue. It seems as though Dell corporate has a deliberate strategy of making it so painful to get an answer on a refund that the frustrated customer simply hangs up.This is really unacceptable.

As Dell shapes up to become the industry leader within the End to End technology solutions space, it will be a good idea to have a complete package that helps new and emerging business to not only plan for their technology needs but also to procure best in class products and solutions at most reasonable price points.Dell could partner with these new businesses to support them as their technology consultant, available as and when they have a need. The package for new businesses would comprise :1. Free diagnostic tool (available on Dell.com as well as through apps on iOS and Android) Take the inputs from researching new customers, in terms of revenue, manpower, # of customers etc Tell the businesses what are the essential technology products/solutions that they would need (eg. Desktops, Storage, Servers etc.) Calculate the best price that could be offered to that new business, if all the products and solutions are bought together (Dell can use real-time custom pricing) 2. Financial options Offer from the DFS, to support these startups financially Payment options could be kept flexible Long term contract of exclusivity (buying only Dell products), would graduate these new customers to the 'Loyalty Emerging class' level; this new class of customers can be offered better discounts, superior support services as Dell would want to invest in their dreams 3. Sales support and Tech guidance An exclusive sales associate would help these new businesses close the deal with Dell Additionally, follow up from Dell would provide guidance on setting these products/solutions up Virtual assistant tools would be provided to these new businesses, to trouble shoot 24x7 Helpline support email ids/ contact number to be provided to these new customers for first 6 months Am sure this is going to be a hit amongst all the new businesses. After all, who would not want a one-stop shop for all the technology needs of his/her new venture.

On Windows 8, the Skype app in Metro dose not work well. Please pre install Skype on the desktop for all pc`s with webcams. This will save the customer a lot of time in downloading and set up. The downloads also have a lot of freeware that is unnecessary for the customer.Make it easier on the customer, especially people that haven`t used webcams before and may not have a son or daughter nearby to take care of this for them.

Hi everyone, recently my Dell laptop crashed. :-( As the warrenty had already expired i wanted to change the cpu fan myself. However it was extremly difficult to find the right cooling unit. Thats why i ended up bringing it to a local hardware shop searching for help. When i mentioned i had a Dell laptop, they rolled their eyes saying that it might be extremly difficult to find the appropriate spare parts. However, the somehow managed to get a new fan and my laptop was running again.I think Dell should provide spare parts on its Website to order for every customer. This would make it extremly easy to service laptops that are no longer covered by the Dell service.

I once saw on a documentary the idea of a low-orbit space station that is tethered to the ground. Orbiting in sync with the planet, this tether would eliminate the need for rocket fuel propelled vessels to carry objects into orbit. I purpose that if this space station is possible, than why couldn't we send all of our waste into space. This could have a signifigant impact on the enviroment here on Earth.

When it comes to purchasing a desktop it's an easy process – you find a manufacturer, tailor it any way you want, and then pay for a warranty where they are required to replace or upgrade components. Even after the warranty expires, you are still able to maintain the longevity of the system yourselves, by purchasing components at retail. Not so are the circumstances with a laptop, however. Here a manufacturer gives them a lifespan; until they believe the system reaches a period of obsolescence where they discontinue it. Thus new graphics cards or processors, regardless of whether or not they are a compatible form-factor, cannot be installed without customers losing their warranty and technical support. Our society’s obsolescence also has a dirtier consequence: the amount of E-waste we expend every year in our obsession to always have the best, newest machine. Because of this, millions of tonnes of obsolete electronics gets ferried to landfills where it breaks down, poisoning water and soil in the area and further running the risks of creating Climate Change. The Scavenger Project, therefore, will hope to change all that.As a pilot-range of laptop shells fabricated by 3D printer using a recyclable, sturdy filament, these will be specially designed with a modular form factor to enable them to be fitted with all the usual components of a laptop, even in AMD CrossfireX and NVIDIA SLI configurations. To make this work, certain features (such as the keyboards, trackpad and choice of displays) would function as default templates with a warranty and technical support in their base price, and customers will simply configure the system as they normally would. Then a database of compatible components, regularly updated in hardware generations of two years, will serve as the structure people can purchase through upgrading and replacement guidelines, whilst returning old components in a fixed five-year customer contract.Instead of condemning entire systems to technology landfills, the purpose will be to cut back on electronic waste by selling only the truly old components for use with other technologies (such as Raspberry Pi) through the Dell Store, whilst allowing users to still make use of their outdated systems by merely purchasing new gear to augment it. Once a laptop model is discontinued, the shell’s material itself would also be recycled back into filament, and its keyboard and other internal electrics would be kept for use in the fabrication of new models.Starting templates would be in 15, 17 and 18-inch sizes for the Alienware brand... if a laptop range then proves successful, a small “X-71” and larger ALX model would then be produced for desktop customers, and consideration would be made for the XPS brand. Rather than take sole credit for this, however, I would like this is as a StormSession topic for debate, as well as encourage other users to post potential laptop designs.
