Dell Mobile Workstations Need Numeric Keypads M90/M6300

Dell needs a numeric Keypad on "Mobile Workstations" M90, M6300 types. HP has had a numeric keypad for a While on their mobile workstations. If these are oriented towards CAD applications, then give engineers (who deal with numbers daily) what we need, a numeric keypad and utilize some of the wide open space on this 17" notebook. It wouldn’t cost much more and for the price they should give us what we need. It’s not like they have to invent one for notebooks, they are already being made! Also allow us to turn off the touch pad so it doesnt get bumped when using the keyboard, we use a mouse and 3D motion controllers to navigate our applications! Blade Workstations

Dell should make a workstation blade like IBM and HP or Clearcube. I think it has many advantages for administrator and users. Administrators have the computers in their air conditioned server room all together and the users only have a fanless little box where then can connect usb devices, monitors (at least two) and sound. This would be perfect because if you buy a Precision workstation from dell it is really too loud and noisy. Like at Clearcube you should be able to choose from diffenerent Ports with diffenent features. They also should be able to connect through ethernet cable (Cat5e). I would love to see that from Dell. With the Dell support of course =) Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

I noticed the Dell precision M65 was replaced by the M4300, When will its big brother, the powerful Dell M90 be replaced with a faster processor and Front side bus and updated graphics card and what will its number be? The M4300 now has faster hardware than its Big brother and shader model 4 on the graphics card. I want to buy the latest technology! Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

Memory for Workstations

Dell you should really focus on greater memory capacity for your Precision Mobile Workstations (16GB or more) as well as for your Precision (Desktop) Workstations (256GB or more). In fact, you should have a "Category" for Precision Workstations on this site. We need to find more Oil n Gas and higher performance systems would keep us from looking at your competition. We like to buy a lot of horsepower with $70 a barrel crude. Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

Deliver M4300 with better Quadro graphics card

Been using an M70 for two years and was eager to see the Santa Rosa based workstation laptop. Looking for 15.4" as the 17" is too much to carry around and I have a Precision 390 for hardcore work (solid modeling, FEA, CFD) at the office. It would be nice to offer a Precision M4300 with more than just the entry Quadro 360M and an analog VGA port - how about the Quadro 1600M and a DVI. This would give a powerful workstation class notebook that can be carried around. Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

Make CD/DVD drive swappable with an extra HD

If the CD/DVD drives uses SATA then it should be a small problem to unplug the CD/DVD drive and plug in some kind of alternative slider which contains an extra hard driver(or solid state drive) which also uses SATA. That would rock - RAID on even really lightweight laptops! ;o) And the option to have an SSD drive as main drive, and magnetic disk HD as extra drive for storage. For laptops which already use SATA for the CD/DVD drive you just need to produce the slider... Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

Preconfigured mirroring (RAID1) on every PC with 2 disks

Status: Partially Implemented

Every Desktop and Notebook which has at least 2 disk slots should be optionally availible with preconfigured RAID1 managed by the motherboard RAID controller The obvious objective is to almost transparently survive disk crashes for casual users. Reinstalling after a crash si a several day long nightmare, even if you have backed up your data , which is itself a nightmare, considering these data are spread everyware. So most casual users do nothing and live with this sword of Damocles hanging above. SW RAID managed by Windows is not an attractive option; not available with basic XP, difficult to setup. HW based RAID preconfigured at BIOS level is transparent and relatively easy to live with. Wasting 50% of disk space is not a problem with the tiny GB price we see today. Preconfigured RAID 1 exists in Dell line but is limited to very few high end workstations and servers. Status Update Please see mano_g's comment

2560x1600 or higher resolution support for laptops with docking stations

Feb 20, 2007

Our frequently-traveling engineers are slighted because Dell travel-intended notebooks do not support very-high resolution monitors (such as the Dell 2560x1600-resolution 3007wfp). These engineers plug their notebooks into docking stations on their desks, unlike their less-frequently-traveling counterparts, who use Precision 470 workstations with very-high-res graphics cards. I think Dell makes only one notebook (the 8.61-pound Dell Precision M90) with a chip that could handle the 3007wfp, but I've been unsuccessful at confirming that a dual-link DVI connection through a docking station is available. The 24" and 27" Dell monitors are nice, but their 1920x1200-max resolution is not a substitute for the value of 2560x1600. Status Update Please see mano_g's comment
