For ideas that are "old" or not popular with the community, automatically archive them after a specific period of time. For example if it were know that ideas that receive no votes or comments in a 90-day time window that these ideas would be automatically archived, two things would happen. First, the clutter automatically cleared out of the way so that one could focus on fresh ideas. Second, there would be a built in promotion component. Whomever was the original poster would be incented to continually recruit new participants in that specific idea or even recruit new community members. Naturally if you did this, you would need put a timer on ideas that are getting within the 2-3 week range so that the author could get back out there and start promoting. And any given post or comment would reset the 90-day timer.

Dell should put links (or even those nice looking graphics at the top of all the ideastorm webpages) on the homepage, or even on most pages within the dell.com site. Show people that Dell Cares, and is trying to make changes based on peoples comments, complaints and experiences! The average user will never hear about ideastorm via an rss feed (which is where i found it) nor will they come across the dell blog since it is not promoted within dell.com (who is going to go to "about dell" and expect it to be there?) Dell is doing a GREAT job of trying to get customer's suggestions, comments, complaints, and i feel that they really will put those comments into consideration for future products, improvments, etc... Why not promote it more?! Status Update We do now have link on Ideastorm to the other sites and at www.dell.com, bottom of page "about dell" takes you to the front of the corporate information page where "Dell Communities" are featured. You can go here: www.dell.com/conversations.

I have noticed that on the Dell site, I have 3 accounts (forum, ideastorm, and main site). I think maybe Dell should make it so that one can have one account for all of the Dell website. The only problem is the people who already have accounts. I haven't had much time to think on this, so feedback would be appreciated. Status Update Please see chris_m's comment

Dell must be using a Salesforce platform for the new community sites (forums, Direct2Dell etc) because it is seriously messed up. Whenever I try to update my account I get a user error, I can't post comments on Direct2Dell, the layout is confusing and the site is slow. I'm sure they just need to work out the kinks but perhaps a Friday launch was not the best idea. I have tried using IE8, FF3 and Opera and have the same problems each time so it is not a browser issue. Status Update The errors have been fixed

OK folks they have moved the Ideas in action and Moderator update sections over to the Direct2Dell site so we can post comments on them and interact more with the admins. here is a link to the announcement for the unaware. http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2007/10/30/32489.aspx If they want us to post there they need to do some improvements to the site to make it work properly. 1. There is no log in so anyone can use your user name to post if they want. 2. The comments are moderated which effectively stops any real conversations from happening and can cause confusion when they finally post several comments at once. 3. There is no notification of comments being posted after yours, not even an option to have email notification. 4. The only way you will know if a new posting is put up on the site by an admin is to check the site often or subscribe to an RSS feed and check it. Not all users are even aware of what an RSS feed is never mind how to use it. Can't you cut down the size of the "Jump into the eye of the storm" button and add a small RSS section that shows the newest posts on Direct2Dell or something? Maybe a flashing red beacon to tell us something has changed? Any other suggestions people? Status Update Per the original poster, jervis961: Log in and responses work properly now. Moderation is improved a bit as well

Develop a community site to allow proponents and opponents of Dell to submit questions and suggestions to the Chairman. Replies can be at the discretion of Dell. Status Update The Chairman, Michael Dell, was the person who initiated launching this site. Those of us at Dell know he reads it regulalry, often asking others in the company about ideas here or how fast we can move forward to implement certain things.

The Dell Community forum is a cool place to chat and exchange with others customers and Dell members, but Dell needs to propose different languages for this forum ! most of the content is directly written by users, so it is a cheap way to propose better services. Status Update Forums are beneficial for all users/customers across the globe. The Dell Community will continue launching forums in multiple locations/languages.
