Ubuntu on Studio Notebooks

The new Dell Studio laptops look great! Taking the best design features from many other Dell products, and put them all into one. This laptop actually looks like it should run Linux (that is the first thing I thought when I saw it). I don't know why I say that, but it just does. So, why not give it ago? I don't have a Studio, though I suspect it shouldn't take too much to get Ubuntu working (may need one or two drivers written, but from my experience with Dell laptops and Ubuntu, most things work well). This is one of the products I would particularly like to see Ubuntu as an option to be pre-inatlled on if Ubuntu can't be an option on all models. Status Update Ubuntu is available on the Studio 15

Dell where is the new range of Studio XPS laptops. According to your roadmap it should have been released in November 2008. So why are you still selling outdated hardware to customers this Christmas. There has been such a significant delay in upgrading the studio line and the misery continues. As a long time Dell customer I have delayed buying a laptop from you and it looks like I will be going to HP as they have introduced some really good laptops at a cheaper price.

Offer a smaller Dell Studio Laptop

I was amazed when I saw Dell Studio Laptop via advertisement.  However, when I took a closer look at a retailer, I found that Dell Studio 15 is very big and heavy.  The design is nice, but the laptop seems to be very very large. I suggest that Dell Studio could offer 14.1 or 13.3 inch screen instead of 15.4.  Besides, I hope that the numeric keypad on the right hand side could be eliminated to save space.  The numeric keypad will increase the size of laptop only. I sincerely hope that my idea could be taken into consideration.  Thanks! Status Update Please check out the Studio 14z for details

Studio 14 (without the z): INCLUDE OPTICAL DRIVE DVD/CD

Well, as you know Dell just released the new studio 14z, which is slim but lacks a dvd/cd drive.  Dell acknowledges the fact that it doesn't have it but some people might want an optical drive.  Right now there is no dell 14" laptop with optical drive, well, not counting the inspiron 14 which is 2 years outdated and forgotten.  So Dell should come out with a Studio 14 with a optical drive, that is thicker, of course, than the slim 14z.  Some buyers prefer having a complete laptop with optical drive.  Overall, nice design on 14z, NOW JUST OFFER A studio 14" WITH OPTICAL DRIVE. and maybe offer a design update on the lowend inspiron 14 please. Thank you, please promote Status Update The Studio 14 now offers an optical drive

Studio 15 - I will buy if..................

Some things I dont understand about the studio laptops, that are keeping me from buying one right now. 1. Why is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 that is offered in the Studio 17 not offered in the 15? The graphics card is the same form factor as the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 that is offered in the 15, why not offer it? This is a major deal breaker for me...... 2. Vista 64 bit? I would like to take advantage of all of the ram that is in my new laptop, or is that too much to ask? I understand there might be driver issues, fix them? 3. Cheap Speakers? #1 complaint from online reviews... you would think with the media hungry crowd dell is trying to real in with the studio laptops, they would put a decent pare of speakers in the thing. Those are the biggest things keeping me from purchasing a studio 15 right this second.... please help me out dell Status Update  Please see the Studio 15 page for details
