I recently bought a Vostro 1400, which came with Vista Home Basic.. I'd MUCH have preferred to get the system with Ubuntu installed on, but alas it appears Dell isn't planning to sell Vostro laptop/desktop systems with preinstalled Linux. Of course, the system now has Ubuntu installed on it, and other than a few nits on getting the webcam/hibernate/suspend working, it was a piece of cake. I'd just have preferred to not pay the "Microsoft Tax" on this purchase... Is there any plans to supply Linux on the Vostro line of systems? Status Update The new Vostro A series is available with Linux
I was really looking forward to getting a Vostro over an Inspiron thanks to its durability, reduced bloatware and Vista Ultimate options but I cannot understand why Dell doesn't include a 7200RPM option. I'd be willing to put up with a delay if the option were made available but why isn't it an option? The HDD is the only thing stopping me and possibly others from making the jump to Vostro as speed is of great importance. I hope this is taken care of soon as the Vostro is otherwise a very slick machine. Status Update A 7200 RPM hard drive is an option on the new Vostro1510.

Am I alone in wanting a less bulkier notebook? I think it would be great, if reducing general bulk is not viable, to have a 13.3" screen option in the Vostro notebook line, with the configuration options of a 14.1" with dedicated graphics. It was possible on a XPS1210, Dell should not have a problem with 13.3", unless it was some sort of marketing decision to go with bigger notebooks. From what I've seen, Dell's 12.1" notebooks in the past were big sellers, I don't think there are any worries of not selling enough of them to not warrant an option. As I travel a lot for a small company, I would really love the idea of a more compact notebooks with the least sacrifice for power as much as possible while keeping the attractive price range and small business-minded features of a Vostro line. Status Update We now offer a Vostro 1310. To find out the details, read more about this new product offering.

The vastro v130 is the laptop I was waiting for to have a truly portable computer. I almost bought the V130 until several co workers warned me that the V130 was not portable at all because you have to be chained to the electric outlet most of the time. Practicaly , it not a business laptop nor a portable laptop with such a poor battery performance. I am surprised that Dell R&D went through the trouble of designing a thin and a beautifully shaped laptop for mobilty and portabilty and then fit it with an unacceptable battery !!!, what a waist of potentially a great product . As a loyal Dell customer, I am painfully considering Macbook air and willing to pay more for a real batteryprotabilty . Dell is capable making it right please do so Status Update: This Idea was Implemented in the release of the v131 as outlined by bill_b in the comments. Thank you for posting!
