If its available on Alinware 14 then why not on A 17? LCD IPS is by no doubt the best display a portable device can ever get (except for maybe an OLED screen .. but no hopes there). It will be amazing to see an IPS display on A 17. And I'm also planning to get an A 17 in the following month and I would definetly pay extra for an IPS Display.

I think Dell should pay more intrest in this topic because many people have this problem. If you are going to pay upwards of 1500$ for a gaming machine, I believe it should be durable and last. The problem is the left hinge on the Alienware M14x will break after "unusual wear and tear" as dell employees call it. This problem will occur after 15-30 months aprox. I have had my M14x for over 2 years and today I woke up and I opened my computer screen and i heard a crack followed by the left hinge breaking. There are many reports of this incident on multiple threads. e.g.http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19497478.aspx http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19509325.aspxhttp://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/p/19453816/20351006.aspxhttp://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/p/19453816/20351006.aspx as each of the situations state. the left hinge is indeed the problem and is do to no wear and tear. Dell continuously gives the tech support to the costomers saying they need to pay 340$ to totally replace the lcd portion on the computer. As a student, I know that some people do not have very deep pockets. The hinge usually encounters slightly more resistance over time and eventuallu it gives, due to the stress. They did a total recall for this problem on the M11x. As we know the M14x has a larger customer base and yet with all these people with the same problem, Dell will still not fix this problem. Thier online liaison stated that the hinge being broken is wear and tear.No. The Complete Care Coverage warranty does not cover wear and tear. Covered = * Liquid spilled on or in unit * Drops, falls, and other collisions * Electrical surge Not covered = * Intentional acts of damage done by you or anyone else * Fire * Theft or loss * Normal wear and tear (hinges, bent AC adapter cabling, keyboard keys) * Consumables (batteries, LEDs) Liaison for Alienware and Monitors. Let me know on this thread if you need additional assistance. I dont know what the rest of the community makes of this problem but, suddenly one day the hinge breaking and not being able to close the screen on my machine without doing further damage, does not sound like normal wear and tear to me. Please send me your feed back and tell me what you think. Regards, Ben Wu

Hello, I just saw Alienware's newly unveiled line of gaming laptops the Alienware 14, 17, and 18 on the the updated Alienware site.I've been in the market for a new gaming laptop and was considering an Alienware, especially since it was one of the few gaming laptops that I could get in red. But I heard that there was a new product refresh coming so I waited. Upon looking at new models, I noticed that the two other body color options, "nebula red" and black don't seem to be available.I asked one of the Alienware reps via chat when I could expect to be able to build an Alienware 17 in Nebula red, and he replied that unfortunately the new models aren't going to come in anything but the default silver. This is ...disappointing to say the least. I think that Alienware should strongly consider retaining the color choices that were available on the outgoing laptop models, for the new gaming laptops that they just unveiled.

The ALIENWARE X 51 R2 is a much wanted and needed update, but I will dare to say that there is still room for improvement. The road to perfection is long and cumbersome and to get there one needs to do more than improve upon the internals of the model. So... Here are my suggestions for further refinement:_____________________________________________DESIGNMaintain the same design, but make the chassis a bit bigger and add more airflow holes with the same grill design as on the current unit. I go more in detail about this under ”COOLING”. Add metal instead of shiny plastic to improve the build quality of the front of the unit. Alternatively, the front can be made out of matte plastic instead. Shiny plastic is more prone to scratch marks and fingerprints and ruins the aesthetics of the ALIENWARE X51, in my opinion._____________________________________________PSUThis is the area that needs the most attention for the rest of the package to be possible. 330W is simply not enough for a power hungry gaming machine. A PSU does not need to become a behemoth in order to be able to offer more power. A bump to 600W would allow even a GTX 780 to be added, if the new unit is better at keeping the internals cool. If you managed to make your own 600W PSU with an even smaller form factor compared to the ones already out on the market, it would sure impress many people. Since small form factor PCs are becoming more and more popular, just look at HTPCs, it would be an investment. The 600W should be standard on every model to improve the upgradability and appeal to PC enthusiasts and PC builders. I thought of a more compact version of XG’s Magnum 600 without the LCD._____________________________________________COOLINGPlease use a combination of copper and graphene for cooling - its 25% more efficient and cheaper than copper! This will both save money and do a better job than copper alone can ever do. Adding the same mix to the cooling solution of the GPU would make sense. To make the unit quieter, add a more effective and quieter CPU fan and GPU fan. To top it off, make quality thermal compound a standard feature on ALIENWARE products. It would give a lot of positive PR and lower temperatures.Make the chassis a tad bigger for better airflow. Especially the area where the GPU is stationed should be a bit bigger so it is easier to fit a larger card there without it getting too tight and hot inside the case. The chassis could be 2 cm deeper and 2 cm higher without the size becoming a problem. There is also a possibility to get better airflow by adding hidden holes around the ALIENWARE FX areas on the side. It would be nice with several, new and hidden areas where air can enter the chassis._____________________________________________GPUWith this model, there will be enough power and good enough cooling for the customer to add at least a nVIDIA GTX 770, and maybe even a GTX 780, depending on how much the cooling has improved._____________________________________________SOUNDI know that ALIENWARE products come with MaxxAudio software, but in order to offer a better sound experience, hardware is needed. A small chip from e.g. Creative or ASUS on the motherboard or a small, added chip would do wonders and make sense as this system is meant for serious gaming while offering HTPC possibilities._____________________________________________

i would like to add two things to this machine.which is a network card with bluetooth adapter ans wihd transmitter, since i believe there r small enough to fit in and we can find it in most laptop. furthermore x51 has limited usb port, rather then wasting it to plug in a dongle n a external wihd transmitter. now lcd we have wireless, even bluetooth keyboard, mouse, headset and speaker we can get it anywhere or maybe dell can produce it's own to package it.less wired, so that we can design the space better? or even to place it in a safety place to reduce the accident like water spill, or maybe we can even hide it in the drawer(IF the cooling system have improved from idea of rocket stigtrix) so we make sure nobody gonna touch or disturb it. depending on people preferanceimagine x51 a small machine with less wired i can just put where i want, i like, i love, and i happy withso why not a first 99% wireless gaming desktop from alienware?but obviously 1% goes to power supplyi guess that's it thanks for reading

It would be nice if Alienware offered higher-gamut or IPS matte screens. Many potential customers require the GPU power of an Alienware and use their laptops outside or for professional work. Alienware's competitors offer high-quality matte screens, and such screens are already available for Dell's XPS and Precision models. Good anti-glare screens would remove the need for customers to create costly, risky modifications to replace the glossy LCD or remove the plexiglass above. Even if Alienware offered matte screens as optional upgrades to the glossy panels now available, the option would provide much additional value for Alienware laptops.Status Update: This idea is now under review. After lugging my m18x laptop to Argentina in a messenger bag I was more then bothered.I looked all over the internet for a wheeled laptop carrier but best I could find is for 16 inch laptops. It must of course fit on carry on. Dell that laptop is heavy and when you add power brick etc not fun to hand carry. How about making a custom case just for the m17x and m18x wheeled for carry on?

It would be great to see user customization for fan controls offered in the Alienware Command Center. Please consider this in an updated version of AWCC, as it would be greatly appreciated. This would eliminate the need for customers to use third-party utilities such as HWiNFO64 for this purpose. Some of the competitors offer this feature and this would be an added-value enhancement for Alienware customers, especially the Alienware laptop owners.

I think M18x should be supported in India and Dell need to promote its advertising/marketing of alienware in India, and customisation should be allowed in India, it was a pity we couldnt upgrade to the 680M in the R4, but hopefully that wont be the case in R5.

Hello everyone,I create this topic to gather what user (or prospective users) wants to find in the future m18x R2.IN RED what's absolutely needed (Point known to prevent the purchase of m18x)Evidently no need to say that we always want the best CPU and better GPU configuration. It is obvious and D/AW has been well understood.I'll update this first post with what you want.HARDWARE1) Optimus and/or iGPU/GPU 's(SLI or CF) switch without reboot pain2) RGB-LED or IPS RGB-LED @ 120Hz 3D screen (Nvidia 3D vision 2 with Light Boost)3) Bigger screen that fit 16:10 natural ratio at 1920x1200 reolution4) Matte/Anti glare screen for all type 60Hz and 120Hz (And not a matte paper sticking to add !)4b) Look at that anti-glare glass : http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/31/i...-as-food-in-t/4c) Look at that high-resolution Lotus glass :http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817...id=kLDVIar-dcD5) No ghost keys when using keyboard (Allow 3 simultaneous key pressed)6) No flex Keyboard (particularly in the center).7) 2, 3 or 4 all copper heatsink option for the CPU & GPU8) 2 THUNDERBOLT port replacing the Displayport and the very OLD VGA ouput.(THB is fully compatible with DP)9) Only USB3 port and at least 6 port, and located on the left side (because of the problem using the mouse).10) Better front camera11) JBL speaker (that apparently sound great better)12) Easy way to access component (RAM(4 Slots), GPU, CPU)13) A tray loading optical drive.(No CD stuck and the ability to remove it to put more HDD / SDD )14) A docking station (with an integrated cooler)15) Blue-Ray Burner16) Change the 4 pin jack setup for the fans, they are too fragile.17) Integrate Fingerprint reader18) No contact between the screen and the touchpad ring when lid is closed19) A small LCD screen to view all temperatures, speeds and memory (GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD,...), integrated or external USB version.20) 4.0 bluetooth21) HDMI 1.4a and a bit more "firmness" and-Adding a set of features i.e recording22) Better RAM options, like 4x4Gb 2133Mhz @ 9-9-9-2723) Optional full-sized keyboard to consume the space occupied by TactX keys.24) Dedicate button to control the brightness25) Fn Key or button to set on/off the screen26) Do an AC connector at 90° so that it's parallel with the laptop.27) Do the AC connector has a much better clip to avoid unwanted disconnections. (Maybe a slide-lock)28) Dust filters, easy to remove and wash for a better protection of the hardware29) A Firewire port (often used for the effect pedals, or music interface)30) More Keyboard layout options (wirhour Tactix, without numpas, with mor larger touch, ...)31) Easy GPUs interchange, by mean of a slot in which we can plug/unplug GPUs. (allow Quadro or similar and CF/SLI 4 Gamers + big upgradability) (more info here)COSMETIC & SERVICES1) Much better (and transparent) manufacturing & pre-sell/packaging testing QC (Quality Control)2) Total user fan control3) No dead pixel assurance4) Control the color LED on the Alienhead on the back.5) More of the AW stuff done in hardware so there don't need to be 70-90 processes running just for the cosmetics.6) Capabilities to choose a color only for AWSD (QWERZ version ) and to have a separate colors for function touch like F1 to F4 evidently if it's possible the capabilities to choose the color for each different key would be the top.7) CPU & GPU Artic Cooling repasting service8) More color option for the body of the m18x (Lunar, Yellow, ...)SOFTWARE & Issue to be resolved1) No more Aero bug (Last OSD update resolve this )2) OSD more quik to load and stop3) Do something for the Nvidia Throttling (DEll actually work on it, and there's already a good évolution with the last vbios )4) Macro keys working 100% of the time5) No DPC latency6) No 3D Prototype OverlayYou can follow and tel us what you want in a thread on NBR:http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/607421-what-users-want-m18x-r2.htmlStatus Update: This idea is has been Partially Implemented.
