Ability to purchase small replacement pieces (Laptop Keys) for laptops directly from Dell.

Recently a key broke off from my fairly new laptop. The warranty had just expired days earlier. I was shocked when I called the dell service desk, and they said the only option would be to send in my laptop and spend $170 for a replacement keyboard. I had done research before I called, and found websites that sold the keys (Keys, the plastic support piece, and the rubber cup) for around $4. When I told the Dell rep that I was going to peruse this other website for the replacement piece, he got angry and said "There is no website in the world that you can buy individual laptop keys from". I ordered the key, and it came a few days later. Worked like a charm.I find it hard to believe that it is impossible to buy the laptop keys from dell. I understand that older models would not be available. I would have much rather purchased this from dell, over some random website. In the end, this website came through like a champ, and I came away with a sour experience with dell.

Power over Ethernet (poe) for the RJ45 jack

Would be great if we could somehow implement a POE jack into the existing RJ45 plug.I spent alot of time playing around with IP camera's and wireless radio equipment - testing and configuring. normally requiring access to a 240v power plug just to power up a device in 12~24v capacity, im sure it wouldnt cost much and be a great way to market your product above the competition!Alot of devices are being powered by ethernet these days, from IP camera's to weatherstationsthanks,

the dot key on the keyboard

The "dot" key on all keyboards is one of the most used. Make the "dot" key white, so it will stand out, with a black dot on it for easier identification.... I do this on my keyboards with a small piece of adhesive white tape.

I have found the lids of the new Latitude E6xxx range are *very* easy to dent. I have made a couple of claims on accidental damage insurance for dented lids from really very minor bumps. By 6 months old almost all of them have minor dents and rippling to the lids.

i am vaibhav i live in india i have so much big ideas i think maverick (1) a laptop which have a easy tool solar panel i think we can made a laptop which can covert into tab by removing the screen . on the top it have a solar panel which charge the laptop when if we dont have any equipment to charge in today also military now a days also use mini inverter but in when we in the jungle and we need the use of laptop we can charge it by sun (2) now we come in tab we all know about evo mouse in which it project the rays which fall on the desk and project a mouse and keyboard this thing we can use in tab in the two side of tab which help in play 2 players game and it also help in to work in today s also the people who have tab only they carry keyboard because they know they cant write every thing in the tab without keyboard in keyboard it sels it dont have mouse and when we need to do with the help of mouse we need to raise ur hand to touch the screen of tablet and we all know we have habit of using dextop so it can may help them (3) in the tab we use little amount of magnet which connect the tab with another tab and we can share folder with swipe technology and if we are watching a video and when we connect another tab it will become a one screen insted 2 it will help and people will love this (4) now we come in mobile i can explain it better with the help of image in this the side of the mobile up and down will open and the projecter on the mobile the up one will project dextop and down one it project key and mouse it means that we cxan make our mobile to convert in dextop if u love this send message in [redacted]

I think that laptop computers should have builtin fans for cooling down when laptop computers get hot on the bottom instead of having to use some clunky fan that you have to purchase separately.

Many of us use our laptops for the Office Applications that involves extensive typing. I have observed one inefficeint habit among most of them(including myself), whenever, they commit a typo, they tend to backspace right till the point where mistake is made and then retype the entire word/phrase. This is actually very ineffective, when compared to actually tracing the cursor to the point of error and returning back to the original spot. But we have internalised 'backspacing' so much, that it looks far more effective than 'retracing' and we tend to opt for erasing and retyping. The position of the arrow keys also help this. But in the longer run, changing this habit can effectively save thousands of man hours cummulatively. If, say, the arrow keys are moved to the top, rather than their current position in the typing blind spot, people might slowly adapt to the habit of retracing.

An increasing amount of homes now have connectivity to the internet, and share their internet within their own home. With the increase in numbers of "Wireless utilities" such as mobiles, printers, HDD's, stereo's, fridges, and other appliances, there is a gap in the power market where I think my product could fit in. I recently swapped my energy supplier and was sent a free gift. The gift was a home energy monitor and proved very useful. With a clip around my incoming power supply (Near fuse box) and a USB charged display I could see exactly how much power my home was consuming at all times. The product I would like to invent and brainstorm is simple. It is a pass-through plug socket. The device would be plugged into a socket, and an appliance will then be plugged into the invention. No need for it to be oversized should be about the same size as a timer plug. The invention will have the following abilities plugged in:1. A Micro-USB Socket on the bottom (Used to plug into a laptop/Computer for programming of Wi-Fi network presets)2. An Ammeter (Used to digitally record the power useage through the device)3. A Wireless antenna (Used to transmit data to the wireless router and recieve instruction)4. A Flow switch (Remotely or locally controlled to enable/disbale power throughput)5. A small display (LCD) The product is made of 3 parts:1. The socket previously mentioned2. The software to be described (free downloadable)3. A Mobile App (Free downloadable)Sockets are the only thing purchasable and can be purchased individually or in packs of differing quanities. For example A house owner buys 4 sockets (a starter pack with mains clip and USB lead included). He wraps the clip around his mains input exactly like the ones you recieve from British gas etc. He then chooses 4 appliances he would like to monitor/control. He chooses:1. His Fridge2. His pond3. A living room lamp4. His childs TV.He then downloads (free) the configuration and control software available for the product. On his mobile he downloads a similar more compact version of the software as an app. He then plugs via USB the first of his sockets into his computer. Using the software he is prompted to pick his Wi-Fi network (being picked up by the USB powered socket) and enter his network key. The socket is then greeted on the network and settings are saved to a small memory within the socket. It is allocated a unique id corresponding to the network such as Socket<serial number>. On completion of this he repeats the steps for all 4 sockets.He then places his sockets in situ. On his computer he can now see with the program, all of his sockets readings as they work. Each of the sockets recieves its power from the outlet they are plugged into so require no batteries. They are beaming out constant ammeter info onto the pre-programmed network for their own usage which is picked up by the computer with loaded software on that network (a simple pairing). The software can now be used to monitor the total power useage (by the clip on the mains emitting wi-fi ammeter info) and all sockets within Wi-Fi range. This can be displayed and monitored with lots and lots of tools as it is all read on his personal PC.Using the software he can also remotely turn on/off the socket. This is brilliant for the kids TV at bedtime (no more sneaking the TV on whilst mum and dad arn't watching). The pond has also been programmed using the software to work on a timer. Coming on at 9:00am and off at 6:00pm (except sunday). That is how flexible the software possibilites are.Also, if the man decides to go on holiday he can remotely turn on or off his living room lamp using his mobile app, and an external encrypted port into his wi-fi router protected by username and password. All of this and still monitoring the useage of his fridge in comparison to other fridges measured by other users of the software all over the world. Brilliant for encouraging true power reading consumer tests when appliances can be named on the software eg.Socket 1 = "Samsung EPL500C 42"HDTV". Does it really run at only 200W in the average home. Data can be collected and collated centrally using the internet connection connected to the PC or mobile.Lastly is the ability to expenentually expand on the power monitoring. More sockets can be purchased at any time and just be programmed to join the network. With no maximum capacity and ever shrinking technology, the scope is available to incorporate this product smaller and smaller into different designs and styles to suit many different houses and tastes.Please let me know if this has made you think.
