I don't at all agree with going thin, because I want better performance. There may be a market for this, but it would still seem that there's a bigger market and higher profit margins when you're talking about optimal performance. If it can be thin and not outpaced by competition, then sure, let's do it.
Can't say I would ever use this. That resolution would be nice for a 24" monitor or a 37+" TV. It's a ways past HD though, so it isn't multimedia friendly. Also, it would have to be a pretty hardcore rig to display a good 3D game in that native resolution (and avoid a not-so-great-looking downscale).
Eliminating so-called chit-chat was/is seen as a detraction from the desirable social aspects of the site. That kind of policy discourages the volunteerism which powers this site and so many other neomodern public outreach networking defining this new millenium.

@jervis.. yes, indeed, all of us around here always have that line about the OPTION to do things. just was voicing it wouldn't be an option I'd elect to use, maybe I spoke too broadly for others.
@phubert.. our own "company" vs. the Dell company - *HAHA*, yes. or, the almighty echo chamber?
We have a slightly dated ('08) Compaq laptop (for the wife) from BestBuy, and we're really happy with it as far as general entertainment use. Easily the best value, a steal at $550 including taxes. So, I know what you mean about HP. And, I've heard good things about Lenovo for business. I'm still all about Dell when it comes to high-performing systems for myself, though. Maybe I'm too much of a loyalist.
heck yes, phubert.. definitely a "like" on this concept.
reverse-ordered comments is still stuck in my craw. but this almost makes it worthwhile to have the site changing around. yay, something useful. now, if they'd just merge things more often.. faster, so the original idea originator got / saw more of the credit, so to speak.
Not sure about what the old guard guys are thinking here.. you know, those insisted upon being social from day 1.. but the whole mention of an "IdeaStorm 2.0" thing actually smacks of a threat to me. As if they want to do more to link things here up to Facebook / Twitter / whatever. My thinking is: Hopefully Not. Because that's just passé blasé silliness. So, for the record, I've much liked the alterego system here on the island. Call me lame or an ole skrool hack, but I liked dialing into one BBS at a time.
Since people participate in IdeaStorm from all over the world, it seems to be working well enough; it's a pretty cool place in it's own right without forced tie-ins to buzz-word icon soup otherworlds. Yes on the more participation from Dell, and request that efforts not become misdirected back on us (again) -- we want more from you guys.
I'm interested. At least in it being possible to play and burn. More for storage capacity. Laptop that can play BD would be nice when I hook it up to big screen TV.
This is an excuse to call it partially implemented. The spirit of the post is NO software. None.. with the selection of one option. Just opt for nothing extra -- boom, done. Please do that.
agreed, jdelidc and by inference phubert.. this is a top issue for me and should be addressed.. can't even find the supposed N-series.. it should always be an option to not purchase an OS, anyways
THIN IS IN. GET THAT STRAIGHT DELL.

IdeaStorm would be more active, and more productive, if Dell itself participated more
