Ideas:

Try to push Adobe to fix their Flash Player.

I know it hasn't much to do with Dell, but Dell has been busy to improve drivers for Linux by working in cooperation with developers like Ati, so let's give this idea a try: I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 on all of my PCs and my laptop and it's a great operating system, but there's one thing I hate: Adobe's slow development of their Flash-plugin for Linux. Some bugs are in their plugin for years now, but it looks like Adobe doesn't want to fix them. Some examples: 1) Menu's dissapearing behind Flash-object. For an example go to the website of ASUS: http://www.asus.com/index.aspx Move the cursor to "Products" and see the menu dissapear behind the Flash-object. 2) Impossible to scroll when the cursor is on top of a Flash-object. When you move you're mouse to a Flash-object, you can't scroll. You first have to move your mouse away from the Flash-object to be able to scroll. 3) Transparancy won't work. When a Flash-object is using transparancy, you will see a white background, in stead of the underlying objects. 4) Sometimes Flash Player let's FireFox crash to the desktop. For example when watching videos at YouTube. After watching a couple of movies, FireFox crashes. I've got these troubles on all of my PC's and my laptop, different versions of FireFox and different versions of Ubuntu. I hear a lot of people complaining about these problems, but it doesn't seem like Adobe wants to fix these problems. Maybe Dell can do something. I know it's not Dell's task to fix these problems, but they've worked with other developers to get better support for Linux and look at the big improvement Ati made in the last year (although I don't know how much Dell has to do with it). XPS 13 Memory options

Mar 7, 2012

Status: Implemented

Why is the new XPS 13 limited to 4GB of memory?  If Dell offered it in an 8GB model I would order it instantly.  As such I'll have to do an Asus Zenbook and upgrade it manually I guess.Status Update: Your idea has been implemented with the updated XPS 13 systems. Thank you for posting!

Dell (PINK)

I love Dell's product (RED) campaign to end AIDS in Africa.  How about a (PINK) campaign that does similar work to eliminate breast cancer by partnering with the Susan G. Komen foundation (www.komen.org)?  You can see companies that are already doing this, everything from KitchenAid to the Ford Mustang.  Dell has laptops that come in pink already... this might be easier to implement than ever. Toddler/Family Friendly Computer

Now that, HP has unveiled their family friendly software bundle/configuration... I figure the path is laid for others to follow. HP chose DesktopMagic which is geared towards preteens. I think DELL should go after the new toddler tech phenomenon with software like Peanut Butter PC. A recent NYTimes article () claims kids don't want to play with fake laptops, but would rather emulate their parents on the real-deal. This must open up a whole new market for repeat business. Cross sell existing families computers specifically geared towards their children. Or maybe this is a foot in the door for non-computer households... People will do anything to help their children. I have been waiting for Dell to release XPS 13z or XPS 14z for a few months now. When Dell released XPS 15z they said the new (smaller) sizes will be released in the near future. It has been already 4 months, and I am still waiting for these new (smaller) sizes. Please release them already so I can buy the Laptop. Thanks. Status Update:  The XPS 14z is available on the Dell website.  Thanks for posting!

SSD + HDD option in desktop XPS

Nov 8, 2011

Status: Implemented

If you want a desktop PC with a SSD + HDD you have to buy an expensive Precision unit, there is not such possibility in the XPS versions. And if you choose that option, you get too big SSD for what regular users need.It would be great to have an option for a small SSD unit for the OS (32-64GB) and a bigger HDD for data. It's not too expensive.Status Update: Congratulations!  Your idea has been Implemented.  Please see Bill_B's comment for further information.  Thank you for posting!

Offer an all-in-one computer... Ideally with wireless-n for networking and bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Despite appearing as an all-in-one, screen and computer should be modular components that can be interchanged and/or upgraded seperately. Status Update  Please see this blog for more details

There can be a significant difference in the way notebooks are used versus desktops. For travellers, there could be many ideas specifc to laptops, but end up lost in the Desktop and Notebooks category. Mobile users might be another category option. Status Update There are categories for 'desktops and laptops', just 'laptops' and just 'desktops'.

Start a reseller model vs. 'Dell only' for accessories

I was looking from RAM and an internal HD to upgrade my Dimension 4600 machine. However, when i looked on the Dell site, I could find only 'reconditioned' hard drives. To add insult to injury, I found I could get new drives at a better cost/capacity ratio from other online vendors. Why in the world would I then buy from Dell? In the end, the only thing I bought from Dell was the mounting bracket to make sure I had the right one. I suggest you do like Amazon, and start partnering with other vendors so I have one-stop shopping. I will not pay more for the DELL name, but if you are the most convenient vendor for me to do all my shopping, as Amazon, is, then I will shop with Dell. The customer can get better selection and pricing, and you can find some way to make a reasonable commission profit. Status Update Please see amie_p's comment
