We had the ability to disable battery charging in bios on the m14x r1, but on the r2 there is no such option. I think it is a great option that allows us to disable our battery at lower battery charge states, as to prolong its life. Research shows that li-ion batteries degrade faster when stored at full charge. It is best to leave them at around 50%.Dell/alienware please put this option back in our pc's!!

Well now I own the M17x and the M18x and the nice latitude 14 inch bus laptop. Based on my usage of the m18x as a desktop replacement I think the x51 would be more suitable. As one of your very best customers I also own a Dell 30 inch I would like to suggest one humble change to the x51 or two rather lol. Please, Please add the new Asus gtx 670 dcmoc small card. This thing is purely awesome 6.5 inches long and 30 percent cooler and quieter then the reference card. This will make the X51 perfect except two more things really lol.Drop the darn optical drive That will save space, improve cooling, cabling and weight and cost. Most everyone downloads or you can just add an external, please take the lead in this Dell. Also add the possibility of a 480 to 500 gb ssd.If you just do these things I will once again throw the x51 on my dell financial account and add to the already 15k I have spent in the last 4 years Dell. I am seriously looking at htpc cases from Silverston and Lian Li because the X51 is far from perfect right now. I hope you are listening, I suppose I could add the card myself and the ssd but then it would not be under warranty which is the whole point of buying Alienware.

Please have S/PFID out for digital audio. All the high end PC/Console headsets use it now. This is a deal breaker for a lot of buyers, as most of us high end users have $200+ dollar headsets!

I am from india, unlike USA , we cannot customise dell alienware in india.. and the stock model available here is very costly!so it would be really good if dell could make customization of alienware in India as well. this way sales of these laptops would increase in huge amount, also customers can choose whatever they need ! thanx
I just received a new bottom cover for my R4 because the plastic tabs broke. The machine is generally made out of decent soft touch plastic, but the x17m could use a decent metal bottom cover. This is the one piece of the machine that is removed by the user and it is also the one piece that is most prone to breaking. I have thought about taking my bottom cover to a 3d printing shop and having them make a metal copy. This would make it much more difficult for the tabs to break. Also, metal is better at transfering heat away from the internal components. This would help make the machine run a tad cooler and it would cut down on unessary repairs. It is also worth noting that metal tabs can be bent back into shape if they happen to bend. The bottom cover on the R4 is the same one used on the R3 and I bet that a lot of users would opt for the aluminum access panel. Dell could even make it a $50 dollar option if they wanted to make a few extra bucks.

If there is one thing I want to recommend to Alienware, it is to put mechanical keys in the next versions of their high-end gaming laptops such as the M17x and M18x. It will be heavenly for both gaming and other purposes. A lot of us prospective buyers have the same opinion regarding this. Among all the M18x and M17x users I have surveyed, the only thing they have complained about was the keyboard, it tends to be flex in the middle, this hampers competitve gaming performance. MSI has successfully integrated Steel Series mechanical keyboards in their high-end gaming laptops and the reviews were extremely positive. Honestly, all PC gamers use mechanical keyboards nowadays, since it's much more comfortable to use and it enhances their performance, plus these keyboards last longer. We could all connect an external keyboard, but why should we? We are already paying upwards of $2000 for the laptop, we shouldn't need to use an external keyboard. If any Alienware engineer is reading this, they should really consider this before M18x R3 and M17x R4 launches, as it'll not only flush out one of their few flaws but also enhance their already god-like reputation in the mobile gaming world.

Dust is a problem that plagues every device. It is even worse for devices that need to remain cool, like Alienware gaming laptops. The solution is the new Alienware transforming laptop! The new Alienware has a patented hinge design that simultaneously opens and closes the rear exhaust vents as the user opens and closes the LCD lid. When the LCD lid is closed, the rear exhaust vents are closed, sealing the interior from dust pollutants. When the LCD lid is opened to 45 deg, the vents are fully open, allowing exhaust heat to be ventilated out the back. When the LCD lid is opened past 45 deg, nothing happens, the transforming mechanism disengages from the vents because they are already fully open. In the 2nd generation of Alienware transforming laptops, the lid opening action will also engage and expand a "platform" mechanism on the bottom-rear of the laptop, lifting it up to give it more ground-clearance and better ventilation. In the 3rd generation of Alienware tranforming laptops, there will be a mechanism that "expands" speaker compartments to enable larger speakers and subwoofer. Speakers and subwoofers need large surface area to move more air and sound louder. They also need large resonating chambers for deeper base. But, users demand compact, portable laptops. How do we solve this? Alienware...TRANSFORM!!!

The Alienware Command Center (ACC) is really outdated, and here's why:I've noticed in games like League of Legends, Battlefield 3 and Blacklight: Retribution - games that take advantage of AlienFX for more immersion, and sometimes helps with the gameplay - the color changes will be much smoother than ACC's color changing options. For example, if you use a transition bar for two colors, lets say, red to green, the transition won't be smooth even on the highest 'tempo' settings.AlienFX is also a pain and an inconvenience for those who like to have really complicated color schemes. It takes so long to delete a few bars from the theme. On top of that, you can't move the bars around in the theme. If you want to make a change in the middle of a long theme, you either have to change every single bard to go with the theme, or just start fresh. So please, make some major changes to ACC.
