IdeaStorm desperately needs a makeover in order to make the site successful. A new home page and content would go a long way in helping improve things. The home page needs to do more than just show the top ideas in order to make visitors want to participate. Dell could still show some of those ideas but also some of the newly posted ideas as well as other content such as the ideas in action posts, storm sessions, member spotlights and Dell product announcements. If done properly it would make the site inviting to new visitors and keep it interesting for older ones as well. Status Update: We have changed the home page to reflect Recent and Tending idea as well as featured content in an upgrade to the site. Thank you for Posting!

I think Dell could improve participation on the site by creating a VIP level for highly involved members. It would have to be more than just a title in order to be a proper motivator. One perk could be having Dell create a new section of the site called "suggested ideas" where every month VIP members could each suggest 2 ideas they think deserve addition attention by the community. This could be a way to give attention to older ideas that may have been missed. Feel free to add any other VIP perks or what you think the criteria for VIP status should be in the comment of this idea. Status Update: Along with the recent site upgrade we have added the Rockstar program to recognise our valued contributors. Thank you for posting!

I appreciate that Dell has improved the performance of the "Help me choose" button while configuring a system. What I don't like is that the results are not fully displayed so there isn't really any help. The window or content should automatically adjust to the customer's browser settings or have the option to open the window more. Here's a shot of the window that opened up on my browser. Status Update Per jervis961: I can now expand windows and I like how some of the info is now incorporated in the webpage to show on mouse over.

For years the trend was to make cell phones smaller and smaller. With the evolution to smart phones screen sizes have grown but it is still difficult to use due to all the scrolling and zooming to view the web and other functions. Dell should do a little research and find out just how large they can make a phone and still have it held comfortably in the palm of the average person's hand. I would bet that Dell could add at least and inch to the screen. Then Dell should devote as much space as they possibly can to the touch screen. While this will not eliminate the need to scroll and zoom it will lessen the need. Status Update Please check out the Streak

To begin with Dell wastes valuable space with huge borders, large icons and too much wording. Here's a shot of what is taking up about 70% of the viewable space without scrolling. 1. The Dell banner at the top of every page is too large and takes up about 15% of the screen. Shrink the main Dell Banner by taking out some of the dead space. 2. There is no need for the bold titles above the icons since the wording underneath explains it, remove them and save some space. 3. Shrink the border around the icons as well since it isn't needed. 4. Above the icons you have a whole live taken up by "Support station by Dell". Are you afraid that people will forget they are on a Dell site when you still have that HUGE Dell banner taking up about 15% of the page ? Change the phrase to "Support Station" and then you will have room to move the Icons up and save more space. 5. There are way too many options on the left side of the page which makes everything look cluttered. Turn it into a collapsable list under each title to clean things up a bit. Doing this will allow some of the other options to move up the page and become visible without scrolling. After you fix that I can give you some feedback to clean up the bottom half of the page. Status Update Per jervis961: Dell at least cleaned up the huge banners and took out the border around the main icons. This freed up space to show more information on the screen without scrolling which was my main point.

I was looking to buy a small LCD TV and DVD combo system and remembered the XPS One. I figured it would be worth spending a little more to have the added functionality. Unfortunately the system doesn't seem to be wall mountable. I thought maybe I could rig it somehow but the ports are all in a location that I would need to remove it from the wall to even plug in a USB drive. Dell should make a new XPS One with ports around the edge and the ability to mount it on a wall. Status Update Per jervis961's comment, look at features and you will see you can mount the Inspiron One on the wall.

I like the Studio XPS line but I'm not too keen on the leather strip. My fear is of it wearing out or pealing off the system. Leather is usually glued on and that wears out over time especially with heat. How about making the leather optional? Status Update Leather is now optional. Check out the Studio XPS line for details.
Sure anyone can post on IdeaStorm and claim to be from a partner company. So why not supply verified representatives from your partner companies with a special tag next to their name like Dell employees get? Take for instance Chris @ AMD who may or may not actually be with the AMD. If he IS from AMD give him a tag next to his name of "AMD"instead of "Dell". I'm sure that your partners would enjoy the extra input from us as much as we would love to talk to them.
