Updating XPS M1330

390 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Gaming, Sales Strategies, XPS products by gattomorbido 12/13/07

Only few days (15 gen 08) and Apple will presents the new 12/13.3" MacBook (Pro?):
thinner, lighter, more powerful.

M1330 will lose the 1st position?
No longer the best e thinner 13.3" notebook ever?
Absolutly no! Don't!!!
M1330 was the best and should remains!

Again, who says little size = little powerful?

Let us choice if we want power or battery duration!
We need a very portable system yes, but it must be full powered!!!

Little AND powerful!

So, Mr. Dell, please updating the M1330, the REAL competitor of MacBook (pardon, Macbook was the competitor... :) with thin features:

- video card 8600gs or superior (see LG P300: they made it!)
- gigabit lan (why only 10/100 lan? chipset support gigabit!)
- webcam better, at least 1.3mpx (LG P300 again)
- no glare effetc option (I want to see what happens on screen!)

I'm waiting your updating BEFORE buy my next Dell notebook.
I must change my Inspiron soon, very soon, so be quick!

Yes I concentrated on the Latitude but suggested using a M1330 body in all black with better specs.

well... macbbokair was presented and is not too bad but i prefer m1330 :)
multi touch is a nice thing but no drive is a bad idea (use driver from other pc i think is... by parasite.)

updating my wish list:
- geforce 9300m (or 9500m), the new serie from nvidia, already avalaible (see asus Asus M50Sv AP012C, the first with it)
- nVidia Hybrid SLI technology to increse performance and save battery life (see my idea)
- less weight: 1,3 with 4 cell battery - 1,6 with 6 cell battery at maximum
- 3 usb port (see my idea)
- webcam 1,3 mpx or more
- gigabit
- monitor no glare
- best audio 7.1 with best speakers: now sound quality is not wonderful...
- of course penryn with 6mb cache (t9300 and t9500)
- 4 gb ram
- vista ultimate x64 (+ubuntu, in dual boot)

wow!
i'm dreaming?
i hope no...

but i repeat: xps is top of category for consumer and pro-sumer and xps MUST build with top of hardware/performance!

thanks again at all

Personally I really like my M1330 as-is. Especially the fact that I often get 6 1/2 to 7 hours of real world runtime (when reading/browsing) out of it with the 9 cell battery even with wireless ON. I have a GeForce 8400M model not an integrated graphics model.

I particularly love the LED backlit display. It's good that Dell were sensible enough to give it a wide range of brightness options. I can use it comfortably in pitch darkness and in outdoor light. I have no problems with the limited level of reflections, though others seem to (maybe they just need to turn the brightness up?) .

I suspect gigabit ethernet was omitted for power management reasons. I'd like to see it included, but only if the MAC and PHY could be automatically switched off when there's no link, so they wouldn't have an adverse effect on battery life.

If there's one thing I'd like from an XPS M1330 mark II it'd be a higher resolution panel ( 1440 wide maybe ) with a warmer white point, something closer to sRGB's 6500K than the current 9600-K-ish whitepoint. One extra dimmer step would be nice too, for use in total darkness.
