Update M1330 GPU to beat specs of LG P300

350 points posted to Gaming, XPS products by tenrou 12/10/07

Basically LG of Korea has released a 13.3" notebook called Xnote P300. Link here:
http://www.lge.co.kr/brand/xnote/product/BrandProductListCmd.laf?brand=XNOTE&...< notable thing about this model it the inclusion of a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS with 256Mb of dedicated VRAM and the possibility to configure it with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7700. It also weighs in at just 1.6kg.

The 8400M GS in the M1330 is definetly lacking in power I'm hoping that Dell might consider upgrading the GPU in said laptop in conjunction with the introduction of the Penryn processors in early January.

Please, I'm dying to find a properly portable laptop to do graphics programming on (my major at the university) and that I can buy in Japan.

Please promote this if you'd like to see the GPU of the M1330 upgraded to *at least* a 8600M GS with 256Mb gddr3 VRAM. Or at least have the option to select this more powerful GPU along with current offerings in the GPU department.

PS. s-video out would also be *very* nice as well as 1440x900 resolution, but I'll make separate idea-entries for those. DS.

Yes, such a powerful video card will be useless with a high resolution screen.

With those specs it'll crush the M1330 hands down mostly because of the significantly more powerful GPU. While I do agree that the design of the M1330 is more pleasing it hardly makes the machine faster now does it? I'd easily be willing to live with the tiger-stripes to have a portable laptop with enough power to function as my primary computer.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say. That if Dell upgrades the GPU they should upgrade the screen resolution as well? If so then I agree.

I'm looking at the Dell M1330, Sony Vaio SZ and LG Xnote P300 because I want a portable computer that packs enough power (especially in the graphics department) to function as my primary computer. While at home I intend to hook it up to a larger monitor and external mouse and keyboard. so far only the P300 packs enough punch but it's only available in South Korea so I'm hoping Dell or Sony for that matter will throw in a GPU-upgrade in conjunction with the Penryn-upgrade set for January 2008.
