Desktop/Notebook replacement

120 points posted to Desktops and Laptops by diverkle 12/06/07

Dell needs an All-In-One (similar to an iMAC) for people who don't really need a portable notebook.

I've had a notebook for years, but rarely take it out and NEVER use the battery.

Features.
- LCD Screen 15 - 19 inch
- Detached keyboard/mouse (Bluetooth)
- Same drives, slots, ports as a notebook, all in the screen.
- no battery. (You can add an external batter pack option).
- Case/Screen cover, so I can put it in a drawer when I'm not using it.

Why not just get a desktop? - I take it to Florida once a year.

This has already been done but I would like more choice options in what goes inside.

Does it have an nvidia graphics option? I'm sure they put in an ATI card.

A more portable version of the XPS One? How about just getting a carry case?

The more portable version is the M2010 which predates the XPS One. So the XPS One is actually a less portable version of the M2010. Amazing! Dell created a new product by removing an awesome feature. You can take it with you.

I check out the XPS one.
1. I'd be afraid to take it anywhere.
2. The best thing about DELL is the ability to configure the system as you want it.
The XPS One is barely configurabue.
3. For the price, I'll get 17 inch notebook, and save a few hundred $

Well the XPS One is basically a notebook. It's just designed to sit on your desk permanently.

The Imac has already been copied initially by HP, then Gateway, (also called the One, BTW) and now Dell. Little late to the show, but pretty none the less.

I have to admit the Dell XPS One looks the best out of all of them. Just a shame about the ATI graphics.
