Add one (two is better) port to AC adapter on notebooks

150 points posted to by fxmulder 11/30/07

I have my notebook with me most of the time, and use usb cables to power/charge other devices. It would be good to see a usb port on your AC adapter so I wouldn't need to power my notebook to recharge my phone. I could just connect the usb cable to the dell ac adapter - how lean that would be !

In my opinion, I'd rather have as few points of failure as possible on the power source for my system.

Hi Matthew and thanks for your suggestion. Anyway I'd prefer not to carry 4 different adapters with me (blackberry, GPS, Notebook and bluetooth headset) - the notebook one is powerful enough to replace the others - if only it had a standard plug (that would be a better solution) , or a couple of USB port so I can connect the other cables. Today I already do so - just need to keep the notebook powered otherwise the USB ports would not provide power, hence the suggestion to add the usb port on the adapter itself. It shouldn't be more expensive than 1$ given the volume Dell produce of those adapters. I've seen they're designing next generation (see direct2dell) and left feedback there also - just thought I would sense how many others feel the same as me.
