Dell XPS m1530 - How about XP as an option

310 points posted to Operating Systems, XPS products by diytuner 11/27/07

Well, it would definitely be nice if I could buy a gaming laptop with XP instead of Vista

While most people like xp vista is an awesome os,xp needs to be phased out.

Dell has to draw the line somewhere when predicting end of life on products. You can get a 5 year warranty on these things. If they have to maintain support services for a legacy OS because of a small demand, I have to pay for it. I disagree. If you want it, wipe the drive and put it on, or dual boot. I am doing that on a desktop XPS and an Optiplex gx620.

Fine idea, fahlenkp, but riddle me this: I've already purchased a license for Windows XP. If I buy a new PC, such as the M1530, to replace my old one which will be recycled, WHY should I be forced to purchase ANOTHER OS license? Dell (and every other major PC manufacturer) is forcing consumers to purchase unneeded software licenses.

At the least they should allow us to return the Vista CD for a full refund. I don't need to spend $250 - $300 on a redundant OS license. Apparently you have so much money that throwing away a few hundred bucks on unnecessary software is no problem for you...

enkotec: Vista when preinstalled does NOT cost $250, let alone $300. The most expensive edition of Vista, Ultimate namely, costs $199 when you buy it with a PC (that is, have it preinstalled).

I suppose I could look this up, does the consumer series of laptops have the option to get NO OS installed like servers do?

Having called Dell Sales to ask the same question, I can tell you the answer is "no". Dell Sales would not agree to sell me a Home PC OR a Small Business PC with no OS. As for the cost of the OS, I'd like to ask winoffice where that number came from.

Duplicate of javaprog's idea "Don't eliminate XP just yet."

It's not an exact duplicate, since it's for a particular system.
