XPS M1530 Resolution ??

1320 points posted to XPS products, Laptops by avnanda 11/27/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

SCREEN RESOLUTIONS for XPS Laptop Line

Why on God's green earth would Dell throw in such a cheapy LCD screen into the XPS 1530 ? I've been waiting for this laptop religously since it was 'announced', in the hope of a 1680x1050 screen, or at LEAST 1440x900. What is this, Dell ? Are you trying to scare away your customers with blocky icons and low resolutions ?

Ok, on a less rampaging note ..

Is there any possibility this might change in the future ? Would i be foolish to order immediately, only to see a couple of LCD options pop up over the next few days ?

We now offer 1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050 panels as an option. Take a look at the Direct2Dell blog post on the idea.

Personally, that's the resolution I would pick on a 15.4" notebook. That's the screen on did pick on my E1505 when I purchased it. I suspect that Dell is seeing this as the most common resolution for notebooks of this size.

still, dell should not make choices for us. they should let us make the choices...

For the same reason that the graphics option is marginal for an "XPS" PC - or should be: Parts availability. LCD + crappy webcam insread, anyone?

Looks a bit expensive to me, once half-decent component options factored in. Also: This is what I expect a vanilla laptop to be like. Not impressed yet, Michael D.

also make it an option for glossy and matte displays. I for one perfer glossy. because it makes colors pop out more and i dont touch the dame screen like the ones who complain about it do. So what if light bugs it, move it away from the light!

I was ready to buy a XPS M1530 tonight, but finally changed my decision when I saw 1280x800 max. I will not buy one unless they offer at least 1440x900 screen. If they want to compete with Macbook Pro they must at least put it 1440x900 standard

mightydrake, I was in the same position. I was so excited that this thing was released, broke out my debit card, and was ready to order until I saw the screen resolution.

A little news for those of you following this laptop, or this post at least:

A LOT of digging led me to find the complete spec sheet for the M1530, which has a few details left out on Dell.com/s Spec sheet. Basically, the Screen options for the M1530 range (in the 15.4" LCD category) from 1280x800 all the way up to 1680x1050, which is the one im going after, personally .. So its three, with the middle category being filled out by a 1440x900 .. And, most importantly, these other two variants are dropping only in early 2008.

How early is early 2008? January by any chance...

Hey, I just created an account to promote this.

I was in the same boat as most of you, about to order one, all for the design, decent video card, etc, and came to see the screen resolution and quickly changed my opinion.

As a long time laptop buyer, honestly I think an option of ONLY 1200x800 Max is unacceptable. Say what you will, but my laptop from 2002 has the option for that. I'd like to hear some clarification on panel options from a dell team member, because I don't want to order one, and when January comes around, they update the m1530, and it's my loss. It just seems like Dell tried rushing this in to compete with the Sony/Apple this holiday season.

Take away message: Dell: Update the screen resolution and you would have a customer in a heartbeat.

1280 x 800 is simply way to low... even the lower end laptops like inspiron and vostro have higher resolution than XPS M1530. i thought XPS M1530 is supposed to be the best(light weight, nice design, nice specs) but the resolution blows everything away.

These should got all the way up to 1950 X 1200. I'm running Vista on a Latitude D830 with that panel size and it looks really really nice. I was ready to order one of these and, like other people, stopped when I saw the crappy 1200 x 800 panel option.

I run multiple remote desktops a lot and 1024 x 768 is smallest usable size for me. I can't fit an RDC window on the desktop sensibly when the panel is that small. I've also got a Latitude D800 with a 1280 x 800 panel at 15.4" and it's an awful size - that's over 4 years old now!

I'll second this topic. I currently have a Dell and always appreciated the choices they offered (even though you have to wait 2 weeks to get it). Not having a choice on the screen resolution for a 15" laptop is incredibly disappointing. The product manager for this XPS 1530 should be hung out to dry. How can you launch a sub-par product so close to Christmas? XPS is typically your more savy customer...i'm suprised Dell thought they can get away with this. I hope they sincerely read these posts and act quick to introduce higher resolution options...or else I may have to buy another brand.

I was excited about the m1530 - It seemed perfect. But 1280x800 isn't good enough when you can get a comparable vostro at 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

It would be VERY nice to have at least 1440x900. Please :)

WOW...Dell what are you thinking with this low resolution?! I would love to buy one of these right now if you would just include the LED slim high resolution screen! .... also throw in 512 megs of video ram and I'd be even more happy! I'm about to buy a Sony or Apple and add an SSD to it later, so you should get this resolution issue delt with ASAP!

Yeah, what were you thinking Dell??
I'm looking forward to this too. And don't forget to have an ANTI-GLARE coating option for ALL LCD panel resolutions DELL!!! (including 1680x1050). You hear that?
These 2 are the only things that keep me from buying one of these laptops.

XPS M1530 Screen needs more pixels

I want an XPS M1530. I'd buy one now if the screen was higher res. Where's the 1950 X 1200 option?

Edit: The video here suggests that there may be new panel options to come, doesn't mention what these might be

I spoke with a Dell sales rep who suggested that the higher screen resolution options that have been discussed on the Web would be forthcoming in the not too distant future. Apparently, Dell does not want to be caught in a situation of selling systems for which they do not have the parts stock to build.

That's perfectly resonable but it would be nice if we had a rough timescale. Is it 1 month or 6? I'm keen to get one of these babies. If they add a backlit keyboard when they offer more panel options, I'd be very happy indeed. :)

Such a great system for a reasonable price combined with a such a lousy panel. They're in trouble with Acer on the bottom, HP in the middle and Lenovo/Mac on the high end.

The XPS m1530 should offer full HD and higher graphics card options. For the price one can buy an inspiron 1520 that is way better in all categories. It is supposed to be an XPS which should mean it is better.

This idea has already been posted many times. Aside from that, Dell has already confirmed higher resolution screens and other goodies being released for the M1530, probably some time around Q1 '08.

I concur. XPS needs to set itself apart even further from well known gaming comps. Also offer more high end Video card upgrades.

I concur also. I was almost going to buy one until I saw the resolution on the monitor. If it hadn't been so low I would have gotten one.

Higher resolution screens are now available on the US Dell home site. The 1440x900 and 1680x1050 are available.

Changed status to **IMPLEMENTED**.

Earlier today, we began offering 1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050 panels as an option. Take a look at my Direct2Dell blog post on the idea.

This should be changed to **Partially Implemented** until such a time when the screens are available from all segments, particularly through Member Purchase Programs.

@dakkona, I realized this problem as well. I called up my sales rep and he was able to place the order fine for a higher resolution even though it is not available on the MPP website yet.

@cosmichellion: Really? I tried talking to a Sales rep (via Chat though) and they essentially said "Tough luck". Maybe I'll ask again.

Dakkona if you don't have any luck, let me know and I'll give you the name of the sales rep I worked with. Hopefully he works the same segment you need and will be able to assist. He's out until Wed. I believe though. He made sure to get my order squared away before the was out for the holidays. My order reflects the 1440x900 screen part number and has an EDD of 1/11/08. I've heard of one other person who was trying to order through the member purchase and he had a similar problem when dealing with another sales rep.

Great news Lionel. Any idea when I'll be able to place an order for a higher res screen in the UK?

@lionel, **IMPLEMENTED** should be **IMPLEMENTED IN EUROPE AND USA**. In Latin America, specifically in Argentine, we are still waiting for more resolution screens. We only have available 1280x800 resolution.

Thanks Dell! WSXGA+ screens are available in Argentina now. I've ordered my xps m1530 yesterday and I'm waiting for it. Late but sure.
