An appealing idea for a commercial with a cute little boy

70 points posted to Advertising and Marketing by sugarbear 11/23/07

Petzy Mathuram posted a cute commercial from Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_4vAKMrrWE . If Dell had done something like this and had the little boy saving his money to buy a pc, I think it would have gone over well. This is an inexpensive commercial to make and is appealing. What do you think?

What do I think - I think that it is not a bad suggestion, especially if the PC in the commercial is a Dell XPS.

I also like the suggestion of sugarbear about having a commercial featuring Mr. Dell himself.

This commercial wouldn`t be suitable for the XPS line in my opinion. This would be better for the 530 or 531. More family pc`s. Maybe a city setting ( a little higher tech) would work for the XPS line.

It would work with the XPS. The little boy could start off with a 1980s console and dream of having something better. He could save his pennies and then finally at last get to buy his dream! A Dell XPS high end gaming system!

Dell really should give me a job. DA1? Where's my job offer?

Well it was for a bank. An add for a Dell would be much more exciting.

aikiwolfie, you`ve got a good idea about the 1980`s console, This commercial could go in a lot of different directions.

I agree with aikiwolfie. I would prefer an XPS in that commercial to a non-XPS. Especially with the 1980s gaming console it would look good, since Dell originally designed XPS for gaming.

@aikiwolfie, the XPS is for gaming and kids like to play games. I had to think about your previous comment to relate the two.

It's not just kids who like to play games. Most of the revenue that the games industry takes in still comes from the same people who grew up through the late 70's, 80's and 90's. People who are now in their 20's and 30's. People like me. We're the people now buying things like the XPS. It will be people like me that go out and buy the XPS One. People who have cash to spare.

XPS one is not available over here

It's not available here either but the videos on Direct2Dell claim it will eventually go global.

The cheap XPS One starts at $1499.00 and the best one is $2399.00, plus sales tax. That`s with out any thing added, just base configeration. Can you imagine what Dell is going to charge in other countries with the shipping, fees, and duties.

I think the prices will be comparable. The other XPS systems sold in the UK seem to be fairly comparable with the US. I don't think there's a massive jump in the price.

Not here they don`t, but the pc`s have to be shipped to whatever country made the purchase, from what ever country manufactured it.
