Dell: Add a few features to the One and make it portable! Battery, Touch screen, etc.

10 points posted to Broadband and Mobility, XPS products by jorge 11/19/07

Dell you have a nice product with the new One you just released, but its still just another computer. Add the following features: Battery compartment, Touch Screen, Lighter building material but maintain strength for mobile use, a universal power supply!, Carrying Handle/Strap Latches , Screen Cover for transportation protection (just some thin plastic for protection that can flip back on use) and best of all offer it in different sizes, 12", 14" or 15" and BAMM you have your selfs a bonafide new product that will be unique and sell like hot cakes!

Easy Peasy Nice and ... Easy.

Sounds good. Keep in mind they might as well make a laptop if they go that low.

I say for a desktop 17", 20" and 24" would be good,,

Sorry jorge, meant to mote. I love the idea. The features present in itself are pretty astounding, but with the features you ask for, it will be great. Wish I could change the vote...

Wouldn't that basically make it the M2010? (with a touch screen). Out of curiosity though why would you even want it to have a touch screen? using windows with touch screens is actually much more difficult than people imagine.

not really. Have you even used a touch screen computer? they work well in the kitchen, looking up recipes and such. Plus touch screen technlgy is getting better then it was a few years ago.

Yeah I have. I work with them all day long. And I hear soo many people complain about having problems clicking small buttons in windows, such as closing a window, resizing it, clicking links, etc. Unless you want a completely redesigned interface for the One touch screens are hard to use in regular windows. It does somewhat depend on which technology you want to go with, if you want to go with contact grid it might work well, but then you get a rather distasteful appearance to the front of your screen. IR grid is the most appealing, but the least sensitive. You could go with em field grids, but then you need a special stylus and in that case why not just use the mouse. Touch style like the iPhone isn't developed to the point where you could have a screen the size of the One. Touch screens also add significant power drain and weight, which is counter to the rest of your features that you would add.

Yes, Touchscreen is getting pretty better than it was about a couple of years ago. But I still wouldn't it in my kitchen. Smudges and all...

@pentox: Microsoft Surface, is one such example, it has the same touch style as available in iPhone.

Well the tablet will include a touch screen or write screen what ever they're using these days or what ever they call it now.

I guess they are both, touch screen and write screen. LOL!

There's a reason though that the Microsoft Surface is the size it is. And if you look carefully at the surface demos they don't have precise clicking. It's mostly gestures, it's easier to tell if something is moving across your screen than clicking the close box on a window. To my knowledge there is no way you'll get that functionality at the size of the One that will run on battery power.

The M2010 is basically the portable version of the ONE. But I would suggest upgrading it's spec.
