Solaris Stickers on your Solaris boxes, Solaris key on the keyboard, etc.

Very nice to see that Dell sells Solaris.

Please make sure that these machines are NOT covered with Microsoft ads including


  1. Windows stickers like "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP" stickers.
  2. Windows logos on the keyboards.
  3. "Dell Recommends Windows" printed on the web pages and print material associated with these systems.


It would be cute if you actually made Solaris stickers, keys, slogans, etc to replace the Windows ads you paint on most of your machines -- but I'm not holding my breath for all that.

So this Idea is merely to ask you to refrain from plastering your Solaris machines with various Microsoft ads.

11/17/07		 Soon I will be modifying my idea concerning Dell recommending more than one OS to mention Solaris. Too bad that I demoted by accident -- my connection was cut off for a moment, and I also did not finish this comment. Now it is done though.

It's annoying to have advertisements printed on any products I pay for.

At least if it was a Coca-Cola logo; or a Ford logo; or a Apple logo I'd appreciate having the logo of a brand I like on there.

But Microsoft ads? No thanks.

and whats so bad about stickers that actually blend in? have a transparent background easy to read text and color. those i do not mind its the ones that are huge, white or what everr.... i want them to blend in...

11/17/07		 Well all I know is if they sell Solaris Servers and they work great for the customer, they will only be lead into the Solaris scheme of doing things and well thats where Sun hardware comes in, Dell is gonna get suckered.

11/18/07		 @jorge: Not necessarily. For any server we have with redundancy&failover in place so the whole server can die, we'll go with the cheaper vendor which'll probably be Dell. For the high-end servers, my guess is we'll probably stay Sun or IBM, tho.

Agree with you, jmx, the high end servers will probably be Sun/IBM.
