Give option to have media control button backlighting stay on permanently.

I know this is a silly desire, but I can't help it, I like shiny things that glow. It would be way cool if I could make the blue backlight that lights up when you press a media control button stay on permanently. Or give option to have it off permanently as there might be some people who find it annoying. and/or give option for how long it stays on after beign pushed. I'm sure it can't be too hard to integrate this feature and would make these notebooks look cooler.

Oh come on, an immediate Demote? Why for, I see no reason why they couldn't, I know it' sa small thing, but It's teh details that make a computer.

Its not green, and a battery killer, I'd prefer to save my battery than waste it on a cool back light.

Promoted. Nice to have more options.

@jorge:
AFAIK those are LED lights and hardly draw any power.

But some none the less.

Why not line the outside of the screen with LED lights and make them flash different colors with the music?

jorge is right though, since Dell wants to become more "green" they wouldn't want to do something like this I think. Plus I don't see a line forming at Dell as people foam at the mouth for a back light that stays on.

jorge, tehy already have them, on all computers, i was merely suggesting having the ability to keep them on for longer

I think you people who think that this is going to use more energy need to learn to read and think before responding to posts.Dell already has the media control buttons light up when you push them, why not give me the option to have them on whenever i want.

" Plus I don't see a line forming at Dell as people foam at the mouth for a back light that stays on. "

With something that doesn't cost any extra to implement, why not add teh details to the laptop, details make a good product...

The problem is that even though it has no cost to implement it has the possibilities to cause support problems.

Customer: " Why won't this light behind my media buttons turn off?"

That leads to at least a 3 minute conversation to get them to the setting to change it, more if the customer lacks computer experience. Even if they ship it with the default set at a certain time, we all know that people mess with settings or a family member does.

Dell can put the option in bios so that only exprienced users could reach it. If they mess it up then just tell them to reset bios and everthing is back to normal.

So make it difficult to use and not expect a service call when a user cannot figure it out?

that does make sense but at the same time, are we supposed to never add new things to laptops because morons will get confused... im sure there were plenty of people who got confused when we first put a cd drive on a laptop instead of a floppy drive... and i know this isn't as big of a deal but still... maybe just make it a firmware/software update that can be downloaded from the site and not even capable on the computer at time of shipment.... or something of the sort

maybe, only Dell knows...
