Give users the option to have openSUSE or SUSE LINUX pre-installed.

@hach-que - do a search on openSUSE and you'll find several ideas. I think this one is a duplicate of this idea:
http://www.ideastorm.com/article/show/64821/OpenSUSE_linux_operating_system_p...
Please check it out and see if you agree. If so, we'll merge it. That helps get all the votes into one idea, and therefore garner more attention.
Thanks.

hach-que: "but what about openSUSE?"
In case you missed the previous SuSE ideas, the reasons people vote against are basically.
  1. rather see Dell OS resources spent on getting Ubuntu to more models
  2. rather see Dell OS resources spent on getting Ubuntu to other business units (Small Business).
  3. rather see Dell OS resources spent on getting Ubuntu to other countries
  4. rather see Dell OS resources spent on getting more linux drivers working (i.e. "dell wireless", "dell" "printers")
  5. rather see Dell OS resources spent on BSDs or Unixes(say, openSolaris) rather than yet-another-Linux

i was a opensuse user, changed to ubuntu becuase i was planning on getting a dell. wont go back to opensuse, DONT want to see dell support more then one distro becuase they cant even seem to support one properly. just install opensuse your self replacing the ubuntu installl better then replacing windows.

Why are people so hung up on wanting Linux preinstalled? I have no problems downloading an ISO, burning a CD and installing it myself. Perhaps Dell could have a compatibility matrix and links to approved Linux distributions that are certified as compatible with all hardware on Dell systems. Or a community supported matrix.

This idea is a duplicate of dhart's idea "Pre-Installed Linux | Ubuntu | Fedora | OpenSUSE | Multi-Boot"

@dell_admin1 (or any other dell admin)

Please don't merge this into any non-SuSE specific idea. A number of us have been voting up all the Ubuntu related ideas and voting down most of the SuSE desktop ideas.

@undead999: "Why are people so hung up on wanting Linux preinstalled?"

Dell sells a lot of hardware where it's difficult to tell whether or not there are Linux drivers for it. For example - can you tell me if the "Dell Wireless" option has a Linux driver? With Linux pre-installed, it significantly increases the chances of finding a working driver.

The second reason is that some people go out of their way to not support Microsoft.

If No OS were available on most Dell models AND full specs were available before purchase on all the hardware - I wouldn't get as excited about the pre-installed Linux --- but the NoOS idea and Full Spec idea seem even more remote than pre-installed Linux.

@jmxz - The idea I suggested it be merged into is about SUSE, right? Either way, we haven't heard back from the idea author yet.

@jmxz,

I agree with having drivers out there and this is key.

To clarify, I wasn’t suggesting Dell back off selling Linux systems (or N series), its just not feasible to offer every flavor of Linux. I think Dell should do more in supporting Linux in terms of drivers, getting more Linux friendly hardware, expanding lines of Linux products, etc.. Offering more distributions on limited platforms isn’t a long term solution.

@undead99

agreed i just want to see the drivers mainly i think for user friendliness for linux noobs ubuntu is the best choice so id like to see the N-Series go on with that route but offer those units with and without os

@dell_admin1: Yes, I agree with your merge suggestion. The one winoffice suggested at 1:18 is the one I was arguing against.
