addition of 13.3" to Vostro notebook line

120 points posted to Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays, Vostro products by ojisan 10/05/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Am I alone in wanting a less bulkier notebook? I think it would be great, if reducing general bulk is not viable, to have a 13.3" screen option in the Vostro notebook line, with the configuration options of a 14.1" with dedicated graphics. It was possible on a XPS1210, Dell should not have a problem with 13.3", unless it was some sort of marketing decision to go with bigger notebooks. From what I've seen, Dell's 12.1" notebooks in the past were big sellers, I don't think there are any worries of not selling enough of them to not warrant an option. As I travel a lot for a small company, I would really love the idea of a more compact notebooks with the least sacrifice for power as much as possible while keeping the attractive price range and small business-minded features of a Vostro line.

We now offer a Vostro 1310. To find out the details, read more about this new product offering.

Have you considered buying the XPS M1330? It is also sold in the small bisiness store.

Yes, I have. However, XPS line of notebooks are usually not budget oriented, nor business oriented. While 1330 may be the closest match of what I need in a laptop, starting price of $1299 doesn't compare to 14.1" Vostro in terms of features and price range. Magnesium alloy chassis, Mylar sealed keyboard, etc. are just few of the features XPS line doesn't sport. There are also significant differences in terms of configurability as well. Aesthetic design is not the biggest draw for me - the price and features are. I believe Vostro line is cheaper because of it's simplicity and ease of mass production from it's simplicity.

I hate 13.3" XPS. Actually, I hate 13.3" anything, but that is not to say that I am biased against small-sized notebooks.

Also, "I would really love the idea of a more compact notebooks."

If you are really interested in compact notebooks, then aim for a 12.1", not a 13.3".
