Line-in for the notebook screen

270 points posted to Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays by ikea 08/25/07

My Inspiron 1721 has a Full-HD screen but I only use it for notes during studies. At home it only stands there with that nice screen.
Give me a way to use the laptop full-HD screen as a secondary with my monster PC.

I'm sorry, i am not very good at english so I didn't understand. My point is that i would like to use such a fine screen instead of having it just stand there. I like to be able for example view a movie while i play a game for example. And instead of having to first put everything on the laptop, i'd like to run both things from my stationary.

He wants to use his laptop as a secondary monitor for his desktop comupter.

Honestly, it would be easier on your processor to play the movie directly on your laptop while you game on your desktop and vice versa. You might find that you get some lag if you rty to do both at once, depending on what your desktop configuration is.

You could stream your movies over your home network; all my videos and music are stored on a file server in my basement and I stream them to whichever computer I want. I realise this isn't the average home setup, but it's not that hard to turn on file and print sharting and stream your video from the shared folder on your desktop in order to watch it on the laptop.

Some clarification.
The idea is that I want to be able to connect the screen on my laptop to a "normal" computer (normal; any other computer). Just like if it was...just a standalone screen. The reasons is: It is more usual that home computers have capability of running two screens rather than homes have media servers, as kalstolyn stated above.
And I think it is easier to just run everything from one computer than transferring everything i'm using between them. I used to run two screens but one of them is my parents so, no more fun.

i get your idea ikea... i think it's great.

you can use virtual desktop remote kind of apps for this... there's even one that 'extends' your desktop over the network to give the illusion... but it's not like the real thing

.chris, I don't understand this "the other HD part ".

bennish, i know. But I prefer the real thing which feels like it's not that hard to achieve with LG giving you the ability to listen to music from the HD without starting the whole computer. :)
