High(er) spec Ubuntu laptops for UK/France/Germany

950 points posted to Inspiron products, Linux, Laptops by jarocooke 08/24/07

I am literally sitting here willing to buy a Dell Ubuntu the second it is available, however there are a few things that it must have:

1. FSB of 667Mhz (at least)
2. A Core 2 Duo processor
3. A 1440x900 display

These things are all available options on the US 1420N model and were they available in the UK I would already have bought one. Please offer a higher spec laptop with Ubuntu installed as soon as possible.

I really hate not being able to buy the 1420 since it is not available in Europe. I don't know why Dell didn't make it available since the 1520 and 1720 are..but i hope it is something serious such as the European factory not being able to produce that model or something...I don't think its a marketing thing...its a more popular laptop than others we got on the European market (especially the Inspiron 1720)...I think they would gladly give us the 1420 if they could...hope they fix whatever is happening as soon as possible...

Yep the 1420N is the one that I want to, just hope that it becomes available in the UK (with Ubuntu installed) sooner rather than later.

the question, my dear .chris, is: why isn't dell offering these computers where so many people have said that they would buy one.

The point is only so many people have a use for such a limited spec laptop.

If the specs went up high enough, then I would buy one. I am not really asking for top of the line or anything, just up-to-date, rather than budget.
