Eliminate the DVI port and instead include an HDMI port and your in bussiness DVI is dead when it comes to outsourcing to high definition telivisions, why not use the new standard that everyone is using.

Chris: check out SSD drives. They are a new type of HD with the fastest performance of all drives for most business purposes. They fail less (no moving parts), consume less power, generate zero heat... the perfect fit for notebooks. Today the price per GB is high but falling rapidly. The max size offered today for SSD is from Toshiba with their R500, and it's a 64GB size.

1. About the HDMI output... its OK to have it but not necessary and definitely not in replacing DVI. DVI is meant for video output (monitors) and is available in most LCD displays... while HDMI is video + audio... these are not meant to compete with each other.

2. The flash based HD would be great but right now I would not pay the premium, so make it an option.

3. I thought about the the Core 2 Extreme CPU, but note sure about heat, and since they are so expensive, make them a option.

4. The battery is OK as long as it doesn't catch on fire.

The XPS series is very attractive for more than just gamers, but the 1330 display is too small for many uses and a 1710 or 1730 is too large to haul around comfortably for many that travel a lot. The absence of a 15 inch XPS is a serious mistake.

Make them all as configurable as possible with as much technology as is available as possible. Short of potential melt downs, as far as space and power permit make them available and get them out here.

The current delays are very annoying. I really don’t give a rat’s ass whether it comes in some new color or other cool multicolor illuminated look, just get them out here.

Ditto... I travel quite a bit and a 15" XPS would be great for movies on the plane or games in the hotel... weight should not be more than 5-7 pounds

Put the Leds on the oustide(back panel)(fans)(speakers) like the M1710 with the 3 M1330 optional base colors(white)(black)(red). Then it would be a really sweet laptop.
kennywrx
10/11/07
That would suck big time. No flashy colorific notebook, mush less external flashing leds.

10/11/07
spyderxs: that would be sweet

kennywrx: like the M1710 you can turn off the Leds. But if you are a true gamer you want to show off the beast otherwise get the vostro.

So, I'm in need of a new notebook. The XPS 1330 is one of the better looking ones out there and I almost bought one. I love the design. I saw all this hype about the 1530 so I've been waiting, I'm really into the idea of a bigger screen and less than a 6 lb. starting weight. If the rumored 1530 has the 1330 design then I want it but I wonder how much longer I have to wait?
The unofficial release date of 11/7 is here but still nothing yet. I'm almost ready to throw my money down on a sony or HP because I need a 15" but the inspirons are just too hefty for lots of travel. If anyone has any additional info...even if we'll see it this month that would be awesome. I'm impatient...give me the m1530 NOW or just tell me it isn't happening so I can move on. =)

I'd buy a 15" XPS right now if I could. I've heard rumors about one coming out soon and have been checking the dell sight daily now. All I have seen is advertisements for an upcoming imac competitor. Is that really what customer's want? Why not give us something that compares to a macbook pro rather than another non-portable machine.
cosmichellion
11/08/07
Yep sonstone, I've been blowing up the dell site everyday several times a day. Everytime, my heart just sinks because there is no xps 15" or even 14" for that matter. My trusty XPS desktop needs a lightweight portable companion. Being the ever optimistic person that I am, I'm hoping it'll be a verteran's day special release, with estimated ship dates under a 2 weeks, and with a fat release day discount. Welcome to my dream!
kennywrx
11/09/07
I don't know what up with Dell trying to compete with the iMac... although it's nice, I would never consider it.

Ok, it's two days after the 7th, where is the XPS M1530?

11/10/07
Dell, could you please comment on the truth of the M1530 rumours... I really need a 15 inch notebook with HDMI and I am about to jump to HP if M1530 is not real....

11/13/07
I had a live chat with a dell rep on the 7th and he said it would be about another 2 weeks for the m1530, so i just went ahead and purchased a 1720 with all the upgrades available, but I almost went for the Sony FZ but it was just to much money configured the way i wanted. The only good part about Dell is their great discounts for students. It knocked several hundred of $$ of the price.

I actually looked at the current alienware 15" m5550. I really liked the config I could build as far as most components. I know this is a small issue but a big turn off for me was that it didn't have bluetooth internal or so it appeared, it was an add on adapter option. I don't like things sticking out, it's just an accident waiting to happen. I wonder if their new releases will be the same. Anyhow, I still have my heart set on that m1530 and the little unnecessary things like a fingerprint reader I may be able to add to it. I really am stretching my timeline on purchasing and holding on to my Inspiron e1705 which already has a buyer waiting. Come on Dell!!

11/18/07
Thx for the update diytuner. I was hopin' they'd drop it on black friday. I guess it's appropriate since it's one of the biggest shopping days of the year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope it's also true about cobalt blue being a color option...I'm so all over it if it is.

Quote for this idea: "Dell is still missing the most popular size notebook in their high perfromance XPS line"

With the XPS M1530, Dell is making just that: a notebook with the most popular size, screen size that is.

11/25/07
If that's the spec, I'm sold. Nothing less than a 8600 GT, please. Or else it doesn't qualify to be called XPS.

The new M1530 is disspointing to say the least.
No 8800M options.
No high res screen.
A built in Webcam & Biometric scanner that can't be taken off.
Did I mention NO 8800M.
It's a basic 1520 in a supersized 1330 chassis with an XPS Label.
What exactly makes it XPS if it's not any better than the basic system that has been out for.... 6 months or so now ?

11/27/07
OMG!!! Dell, what are you thinking with this piece of crap screen resolution. I might as well buy a Mac....
dough
11/28/07
Wow, now in really glad I bought my 1720. This is basically an over priced 1520 with less options. Knowing Dell they probably try to sell as many of these as possible, then provide more options later on.
j_faust
11/28/07
HELLO EVERYONE!!! what about the CPU that's being offered. I was expecting a Santa Rosa platform with the 7000 chipset. The graphics card is a good one, although the screen resolution maybe a little low. I just can't get over the 1.6 GHz processor 5240. I mean even its little brother, the 1330, has got more under the hood than this. I can't believe Dell even published an XPS on their website without the 7000 series chipset. Isn't XPS supposed to be their flagship??? Please tell me that the 7000 chipset is an option in this, If so I'll place an order tomorrow!
cosmichellion
11/28/07
You can get it with the cpu up to the T7800 @ 2.6 ghz. You just didn't get into building it far enough. =) I've already got mine ordered but with the 2.2 ghz. I don't need more than that.
diytuner
11/29/07
I can get a Vostro/Inspiron with a 2.4ghz - 200mb 7200 drive - 15.4 WSXGA - and all the other options that are on the 1530. Why would I want to pay $500 more for a case and a little less weight.
cosmichellion
11/29/07
@diytuner I understand your point and I've thought about that as well. It's always been my opinion that you're paying that extra money for the specialized support and diminished wait time you don't get when dealing with other lines. I have another xps unit and I've always gotten domestic support on it when I needed it as opposed to my non xps units. Luck? I dont know...maybe they have it set up that way. Either way, not being x-ferred all over the place and dealing with domestic support has been worth it.

I think the people that realize they can get approximately the same components for less in another form factor and don't need the flash or the specialized support will go with the vostro/inspiron. It's probably a more practical route for savings. Those who want something more stylish etc. will go with the XPS.
kennywrx
11/29/07
I think they messed up. How in Dell's mind is it worth introducing a "new model" if its basically the same as two old models (Inspiron 1520 and Vostro 1500). Keep it up Dell you're on your way to the most screwed up computer line ever. I thought you guys wanted to simplify things up.

I'm ready to push the order button on one of these but one thing is stopping me: The only available display is 1280 X 800, Is a 1950 X 1200 in the pipeline?
cosmichellion
12/03/07
I talked to a Dell sales rep just last night and he didn't have any info on a higher res screen. Maybe someone else will get a rep more willing to talk unless they all just have no clue. Although, I really really like this unit...I'm already having buyers regret for the order I placed. Main reason being because I use a lot of photoshop and this screen res will bite. It would be nice to have a higher res with the option to go lower if you want but with this, you don't get the reverse.
maguu
12/03/07
The display is complete crap! 1280 x 800 come on? are you serious? at least 1440x900 or better!!
1680x1050 or 1920x1200 are the right values!!!!

My comment from another discussion:

"I was in the same boat as most of you, about to order one, all for the design, decent video card, etc, and came to see the screen resolution and quickly changed my opinion.

As a long time laptop buyer, honestly I think an option of ONLY 1200x800 Max is unacceptable. Say what you will, but my laptop from 2002 has the option for that. I'd like to hear some clarification on panel options from a dell team member. I don't want to order one, and when January comes around, they update the m1530, and it's my loss. It just seems like Dell tried rushing this to compete with Sony/Apple this holiday season.

Take away message: Dell: Update the screen resolution and you would have a customer in a heartbeat."

At least the 8600GT in the XPS M1530 is GDDR3 which makes it faster than the 8600GT in the Inspiron /
