How hard can it be to ship boxes north of the border? Dell.ca needs Linux option!

Dell.ca says:
"Dell Canada does not offer Ubuntu
We currently do not offer Ubuntu or any other open source solution. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Check out the Dell Community forums for additional information."

But I keep reading the news and checking the site every once in awhile, just in case. :)

I already have a Dell Inspiron B-130 notebook running Kubuntu, but unfortunately it came with XP Home and a ton of trialware pre-installed. I wiped the drive and installed XP again on a 10MB partition for a dual-boot, then had to download all the drivers from Dell to make the hardware actually work with WIndows. :/ To this day the sound under XP crackles terribly, despite my having tried half a dozen different drivers. Ironic, given the little sticker that says "Designed for Windows XP". "Designed for Linux" more like...

The sound worked *perfectly* from the first boot using Kubuntu's stock kernel driver. If I weren't a Linux user, I'd have to return this laptop as defective. The only (small) hurdle I encountered was the Broadcom wireless card, which needed ndiswrapper configured in order to work. But Kubuntu was still hands-down the easier OS to install on this rig.

This idea is a duplicate of ergo's idea "Sell Linux PCs Worldwide - not only the United States"

My Dimension 3100 runs Ubuntu quite happily in Canadian ^.^

Unfortunately, I had to install Ubuntu myself.
I've also got it dual booting. OH NOES! That is totally not supported by Dell.

It's worse than not having a Ubuntu option. We couldn't even buy Dimension 9200s without buying it with Vista, which added another $200 or so per machine. We aren't paying that.

So - we bought the equivalent elsewhere. Too bad, because we'd rather centralize our support around Dell and it is now just as likely we'll slowly move all of our purchasing to the person we bought these machines from. It costs Dell more than one sale when this happens.

Yeah and there are WAY more customization options on the Vostro series in the USA than there are on dell.ca

Just because we live in igloos does not mean we don't want the superior technology that Dell is capable of providing. (I'm obviously joking about the igloo part.)

FINALLY in Canada now, eh? BTW, there are at least 4 separate Sell Dell Linux Machines in Canada ideas that should be merged into one.
