Sell Consumer Computers in South Africa

220 points posted to Dell, Desktops and Laptops by badblood 08/09/07

It seems Dell only sells computers to companies in South Africa. Make them available to general consumers too.

I hope I am wrong about this.....

Your first Idea from South Africa?

But I thought they were already offering them. I had a relative who did purchase one from South Africa, she's since migrated to UK, though.

I was talking to a guy on the weekend who bought a Dell laptop in South Africa through a university scheme and he said Dell support was totally crap.

HP is way ahead in the sales and support in South Africa. They have offices everywhere and respect warranties. Dell is acting all third world on the other hand.

I really dunno how you manage the African scenario...Africa always blames about poverty...when I was there, when you call the boys and girls to work in the Shamba (estate), they will reply me "Mama, Y should we come? God gave the food for this day, I hunted a fish and had some fruits" they are very lazy. Heavy bribes need to be shelled out to the fewer ones who intend to take up a job, the quicker job they prefer would be indulging in arson and violence, becoz it doesnt require any discipline involved.
I wonder how they take up the strict policies of Dell....How does Dell manage Ga Ga?......
Hence there is no space for them to blame Dell by any means......;)

petzy South Africa is a relatively wealthy country - in fact the GDP in South Africa ($13,000 per person) is considerably higher than India ($820(nominal); $3,700(PPP).

Be careful about making generalizations about Africa. It is a very large and diverse continent.

I expected some kind of reaction for this comment, but what I'm saying is true
I meant about Tanzania, I love the nature of Africa, what I mean is though they have the rich resources and employment opportunities, they wouldnt work for it. what you are speaking is about the cities, juzzz travel a bit away from the town youll have an idea. You can see how much people suffer. Each one will have a tail length of children and the head of the family would find it difficult to feed them.
Hi Ga Ga, I have lived there and I have watched Clinton's Global initiative on BBC....it sound ridiculous, when they say Africa is in poverty.
For eg there were a lot of Jackfruit tree around, the community did not know it was an edible fruit, not only that, they can store the seeds and make a good meal of it, similarly drumsticks. I have conducted a lot of awareness programs that is why I'm telling you.......
All these scenario, I extend to Dell, for Dell's added knowledge.
