Was tun mit fremdsprachigen Kommentaren?

40 points posted to by mistern 07/28/07

I didn't feel like translating tonight so I demoted.

After I realized it was you I went back and translated and wish I voted differently.

Translation:

Constantly, there appear foreign-language [non-English] comments, which only a minority of IdeaStorm users can understand. Often, some nice users translates the ideas, but can we rely on that?

I ask Dell and specially the IdeaStorm people to develop a guideline for this.

Thank you.

(I must admit, one reason for me to write this was to create a counterbalance against all those dominating foreign languages for example from the Empire of the Middle [China] or Latin America [Spanish especially], because in actual fact I understand the dominating language [English] reasonably well.

By the way quite difficult to avoid writing the real names of the languages because then, somebody could understand the idea without translating...)

That "god" user that promoted this idea, demoted all (almost) ideas about improving Linux offer. That demoting thing is not necessary. It should be remove

Hi mistern,

What does fremdsprachigen mean? I couldnt find that meaning......;)
mistern

fremdsprachigen = foreign-language

Above you can see my own translation.

Funny you should say 'fremdsprachigen' when you seem to mean 'not English'. There are no 'foreign' languages on the internet.

@badblood: I didn't want to write "englisch" and "spanisch" because you would have understood that without translator tool.

i've also noticed that a lot of the good ideas that come from non-english end up demoted probably solo because they ain't english. when one of us multilingual people get it translated, jackie should go back and add the translation to the title so it ain't demoted basically for no reason

If I come across one that needs to be translated, I will try to do so, no guarantees that it will always be totally accurate, but I will do my best :) If I do not know the specific language, may be a challenge. I can ask the person that posted the Idea; however, some never read or reply to email I send, but I will try it :)

thanks. lots of good ideas have been demoted just because of language. perfect example: this one

mistern translated it in the comments already.

i know but it would help to have it copied into the title

that would have defeated the purpose of writing it in German.

Hear Hear! Don't edit peoples words! Let them do it if they want.

I would not "edit" words, merely translate their point :)

Thats editing peoples word... somehow the fine print on the site has something pertaining to this.

@jackie_c: Somehow that isn't really good enough. We'd like to hear from non-English people as well, not just totally edit their posts and say resistance to English is futile. How about a translation feature? At least a quick link to babelfish or something.

@jorge: Not sure why you would think the "jefe's" do not understand? Did you forget we are in TX? I grew up 1 hour from the border of Mexico, just an FYI....we understand more than you think ;)

@jackie_c: si es verdad entonces porque sigues con borrando los commentos en otras idoiomas? Me gusta que entienden asi no hay necesidad escribir en ingles. Vale.
