It would be nice to know where your ideas rank overall in popularity without having to go through all the pages to find them. Why not add a ranking to the idea that updates as it moves up or down the list of popular ideas?
Good idea, jervis. I did notice that some new ideas keep jumping between different pages. I belive this is due, in-fact, to the half-life of votes, that dell_admin1 once told us.
But from what we've seen with dell_admin*, dav, the time it gets those status messages (Under Review, this is new, Partially Implemented, ... ) is questionable.
I think the ranking would be easy to add, but things take a while around here. As for my rash of ideas, vacation did me some good and I'm not taking this stuff as seriously. If an idea pops into my head I'll post it, if its a dupe the admins will merge it. Although they did merge one of my origional ideas with one posted far after it so who knows what will happen.
I know, at first on this site i tried to take it seriously but when the bunch of us had that break down kinda got side tracked but now i'm taking this site seriously.
Good for you. Where did you go on your vacation, though?
It is tough going through 400+ pages of ideas or using the search to find duplicates or similar ideas. If an idea strikes, just post. I've got a couple will be posting them in the coming days.
No Need! Dell doesn't really care if you go for like a couple of comments. by the way Premcv the comments even if you get rid of them Dell can still see them after you got rid of them anyways so just keep them.
davmcn - if you delete your comment dell admin usually will take out the blank spot when they see it. I'll take down my pics in the am after premcv sees them.
The third photo there is really awesome. Damn I really should go on holiday some year, some day.
When you say put a ranking on the idea, do you mean like based on it's score, e.g., idea X is 10th most popular on the site, and idea Y is 1,000th most popular on the site etc etc.. ?
Sure they are low resolution for the web. My main pictures are 9MP and are too large for here. I was thinking of making a few poster size. I got quite a few that came out great but nothing compares to seeing it in person. I swear there are times you swear you are looking at a painting instead of nature.
Thanks davmcn. We ran into a professional photographer on vacation and he took the one of me and my wife on the boat. The other one with us in it was taken by the helicopter pilot. I took the others myself. It rained for 2 days but when the lighting was good I was snapping away at everything in site. People thought I was crazy when I told them I was waiting for the sun to hit the mountain a certain way.
Thanks, jervis. Those pics are the ones I wanted. I can understand how it would be to stand and admire. I really wish I could see them, in-person, some day!
@cosh: Yes, cosh, I think that is what jervis meant by the ranking.
Wow. When I saw your pic, jervis, I almost suddenly remembered having seen you somewhere. Then I realised that you look "identical" to a friend of mine, no kidding.
davmcv - For those I used my free webpage with ATT to upload the pictures but they limit you to 400kb each so I had to edit them down quite a bit first. Then you just use a little html magic to post them. I never used HTML befor coming to this site. Look at the page's source info and you can learn alot. Or just do a little research online, the link I gave you last time was to my tip section idea for IdeaStorm which explains how to post pictures and video as well as general tips on how to use the site.
Yah i looked at the tips i knew how to post Youtube ones all along the pics i'm lost there but it doesn't really matter i guess....i read that page you spent me last time and yeah spent like an good 30 reading it...
@davmcn: you just need to look at the page source to see how its done, go to your browsers view menu and select View Source, its all there in black and white, you need a place on the web to host your picture, whether it be flickr or photobucket or something else, this will give you the link to post in as the pic as in the examples in the code. Once you get it, you'll be able to post pics, try it with some pic on the web as a test.
Well try it, add jervis961's pick to a comment. Right click his pic and choose copy image location then create a comment and first type this in:
< i m g s r c = " [Note: you don't need the spaces between img nor src the code got activated and became invisible, sorry] copy the link after the " > [same here well the space doesn't hurt] and click Post.
Ok, davmcn, if you use IE then, right click on the image and select Properties. In the Properties window, you will see Address (URL): and a website address. Copy this. Then try the trick that jorge mentioned earlier. :)
Close davmcn edit the comment, put a space between img and src to start. then after src put an equal sign then a quote mark then the web address of the picture and close that in with another quote mark and hit submit again.
Almost forgot, if you find a cool pic and post it save it somewhere where you can find it again as sometimes they're removed! Damn them and if you still have the link you can repost! (somehow those are never removed)
Mostly I try and save them, but sometimes, I forget and most often I would have to rely on del.icio.us to find out the original link and browse from there.
Just noticed this idea.. this would be really nice. You could even offer another realtime user ranking for users (better than, but not to replace "top" contributors) by comparing how many well-ranked ideas each user has live out there. Also, the website should tally how many of a user's ideas have been flagged as 'under review', 'implemented', etc.
love this one. I got about halfway through the list of ideas just manually going from most popular on down and voting and commenting. I was shocked at the dupes I saw. I am sad to say that I crossed some that are similar to ideas I posted, but they didn't come up in the search. I see lots of negative and low score ideas and it would be cool to know where by cluster ranks.
@eaglewonj: Good for you! You are methodical and persistent! See! (for the others) A methodical approach at this leads to a better understanding of whats what here.
@eaglewonj: See now why we complain, we can see it so obviously yet Dell cannot or will not.
Yeah, same for me on noticing these issues. I don't vote on everything, but as I read through, I definitely think there is a good opportunity to help organize things better.
