60 points posted to by robertobiggio 05/28/07

i just bought a dell e1705 with nvidia 7900gs video card.

os is home premium. but the display cant be changed
to center or aspect ratio since theirs no driver for vista.
even the nvidia.com dont have the driver .

and i waited 3 months to buy a vista comp,
there is to many problem with vista and now
im going back to media center edition.

hope vista service pack 1 will come out soon.
obvious, vista with aero interface is a great os
as long as we dont compare it to apple mac tiger
or upcoming leopard.

OS vendors have programs where they'll do free driver development to keep hardware working with the latest versions of their

If not, can't they afford it? I thought they were profitable. Or do they just not care.

how is this anything to do with dell, robert? it doesn't belong here i'm sorry... this isn't a support forum

and i can't remember a setting in apple os interface that has transparency or even colours. you've got white, metal... white... uhhh... metal... white... white with stripes... metal...

i'd gladly compare aero to 'aqua' and say aero's better.

"One of the big challenges has been the driver world.
Chipset companies and peripheral companies need to develop for Linux.
Dell can be a powerful ally. We can say, 'if you want to work for Dell give us drivers with support for Linux.'
...
Are we there yet? No, but you can be sure we're working with those [component suppliers] to give
us Linux so we can ... give [customers] Linux support.

Surely Dell getting drivers for their customers has everything to do with Dell.

well ok it just seems the post is yet another misplaced 'i hate vista' comment.

i usually go to manufacturer for drivers, i.e. nvidia. guess others work differently

But it's outdated & bugged.
Even with a clean vista install, it takes a while for that driver to load & does not show anywhere near the performance as my wife's e1705 with identical hardware, but running XP MCE.
