Delivery Alternatives

180 points posted to Advertising and Marketing, Service and Support by pknobxr 05/20/07

I might have been less concerned about buying a PC if the delivery options provided more flexibility. I ended up having to schedule for pick up at a UPS customer center during weekday, traditional business hours. Almost not worth the hassle versus buying a PC at retail. I suggest that Dell coordinate deliveries for convenient customer pick-up with either Target, Wal-Mart, or another mass retailer that operates a customer service desk and is accustomed to handling hi-val merch in their retail location back rooms. Could offer other marketing opportunities and/or synergies besides.

If Dell decides to open retail stores, then there could be an option for the customer to pick up the computer at the store.

Opening retail locations is too costly. Just need a place to pick up that's convenient, so an alliance with an existing retailer without channel conflicts and capable of handling hi-val product might fit better with the Dell low-cost operating model.
