Specific: What I dotn want installed on my new Dell Optiplex

190 points posted to Dell by tleavit 05/03/07

This has been repeated in the past. I've even posted one on this. But this one is specific.

I received in 2 new SFF Dell Optiplex 745 today and 2 Latitude 820's.

I do not want these programs installed by the factory that are on it:

Google Desktop
Google Toolbar
Dell support 3.2.1
Search Assist
URL Assistant

These are corp workstations and I hate having to remove these programs every time I get a Dell in (which is topping 160 now in 1.5 years).

If you're a corporation that cares in that much detail what's on the machines, why don't you guys use your own corporate disk images? Most places I've worked did that.

If we were bigger we would but the Dell factory image only takes about 5 minutes to blow out with all the proper drivers and such loaded. We have software scripts for everything else. that is standard (I can get office, adobe and Symantec on a box in a few minutes) Basically I can build a factory dell in as much time as it takes to strap an image on it (with ghost or sys pre, etc). Basically if they come from Dell built correct, build time in almost nothing. It starts taking a lot of time going to the rebuild disk that is a blank XP build with no drivers which takes significantly longer to build.

If you purchase through the business side of the website, I'm pretty sure you are given options for no pre-installed/bundled apps. Am I wrong?

you are right, but that does not include the ones I listed. We order them without the pre-installs which pretty much takes off apps like Norton free trials and such.

Ah, thanks! I didn't realize that even the "Clean install" option wasn't so clean! Grumble, grumble....we just Ghost ours as soon as they come in the door.
