needed: display configuration for laptop suitable for outdoor usage

needed: display configuration for laptop suitable for outdoor usage... it would have the best possible set of configuration tweaks to maximize contrast, readability and reduce eye strain when in brightly lit situations... like outdoor seating at my neighborhood Starbucks <smile>

I have tried dozens of adjustments, but I really have no idea of which would be best, lacking sufficient documentation...

A laptop just can't compete with the brightness of the sun. You are better off turning the screen at the angle that minimizes glare from the sun. Sit in the shade if possible. Other than that, turning the brightness all the way up is the best you can do.

Laptop Display for outdoors

I wish I had a notebook which could be used outdoors even during bright sunshine so that I could work in my garden or in a park, or outside of a coffee shop, etc...

Maybe a reflective layer at the inside of the lid could be used to utilize the sunlight. Or somebody could find a trick with polarizing foils...?

Best regards
Wow.

Buy any IBM/Lenovo thinkpad and you will be able to see the screen outdoors.

The OLPC project has a design that does all this, maybe that would be a good venue for cooperation between OLPC and Dell.
