Reward most popular ideas put into action

1260 points posted to IdeaStorm by j.bandringa 04/21/07

There's a lot of interesting ideas on IdeaStorm. It’s time to motivate people even more!

Why not give the persons who posted the most popular ideas, put into action at Dell, a free Dell computer of their choice?

jervis961
04/21/07
The only problem with that is that they are mostly all Linux(good idea by the way). Alot of other good ideas are hear waiting to be found in a sea of Linux and other duplicate posts. If you look at the list of top contributers you will find that the majority of them came posted one idea at the start of the site and either never returned or have had very limited interaction afterward. I wouldn't say that deserves a reward of a new computer, maybe a discount or something.

Isn't the satisfaction that you are changing the world good enough?

Well I think some kind of discount or gift hamper would be nice incentive from Dell. A computer might be to much

Prizes to reward IdeaStorm users

Giveaways and coupons would encourage use of this site (and sales for Dell).

Everyone on here has submitted an idea at least one time, (I hope) but what if the idea gets implemented and makes Dell significant profit (ie an idea brings up Dell sales by 2+% for a quarter)
I would think that if an idea brings up the said, then they send you a laptop/desktop of those categorized by % of increase you idea brings. 2% gets you a beginner -top of your choice, 3-5% gets you an intermediate -top as defined by Dell sales team 6-9 gets you any Above average -top and 10% + gets you any -top you wish.

Your numbers sound good, but I'm sorry... It's not as if this one would ever be implemented. I think Dell is good as far as corporations go but I don't see this happening, although it would be nice. And fair. And altruistic(in a sense). And honorable. :)

I wouold say that the percentages might not be realistic, seeing now how much Dell makes a year,,,,,,,

Merged Comment originally posted Jun 9
Actually, seeing that Dell as a company makes an estimated 60 BILLION, the Ideas should NOT be based on Percentages.

I will think about how it should be dont later.

Great idea! This would finally make the ideastorm more than just a way for dell to steal our ideas, lol. Seriously though it would be nice if we could get something for our ideas. Afterall if we never thought of them, dell would never have implemented them.

Merged Comment originally posted Jun 9
And not just on accessories, but on all Dell products.

jervis961: for partially implemented, maybe reward partial credit (in comparison to fully implemented)? For example, if the idea is fully implemented, then give a certain amount of credit that can be used toward the purchase of Dell products. If the idea is half done, then give half of that amount.

There's a number of ways this could work. The simplest way is to give something back to the people who have contributed ideas on Ideastorm who meet some basic threshold.

Dell could also give better discounts for those who have provided ideas that are unique and heavily approved of by the community. However, Dell should carefully consider how this might lead people to game the votes on ideastorm.
mauricio_martins
Jun 9
Merged Comment originally posted Jun 9
I don't think some "basic threshold". But Dell could reward people that had their ideas implemented.

this approach has got to benefit IdeaStorm... No repeated posts. This is a thing that everybody complains and no actions have been taken to minimize duplications and worthless ideas!

I'm sticking with my sticker Idea, Dell loves stickers so you (we) all get an "I voted on IdeaStorm" or "I posted an Idea on IdeaStorm" sticker. You'll get your sticker after submitting a self addressed envelope with a check of $29.95 for a sticker.

Hi!
What are the points, attributed to us in Ideastorm, for?
Something useful to do with them, would be to allow us to use them to get discounts in Dell's site.
At least participation would increase in Ideastorm, and we would get some benefit.
Thanks :)

They'd have to change the scoring mechanism and recalculate all the points: you get points for posting an idea. If you thought the ideaspam was bad now, just imagine what'll happen if this kicks in.

Yes you are right (lorax).
Perhaps the score shoud be given by popularity and, if an idea was utilized by dell, extra points should be given.

Yes...
The point system of IdeaStorm is totally useless...
The following people
jmxz 10059 1099 189
7. badblood 9411 2162 144
9. reg 9056 1449 129
10. yesmathew 7503 170 12
11. jervis961 7453 7707 165
12. jorge 6448 7714 148

Have contributed to IdeaStorm most, but stil they are not the top contributor.
2. robinjfisher 15778 1 1
3. ootleman 14780 2 2
4. pawprintz 12434 2 2
5. agreer 11983 3 1
8. gergnz 9086 6 1
These people who have contributed only 1 or 2 ideas are on the top, because their idea is Linux related, and the community
supporting them go and promote their ideas, thereby giving them an edge over...

Dell should offer more points for creating an idea, and even more for "Under Review" ideas and so on...

Thousands of Dell customers have contributed to the IdeaStorm site, and have provided Dell an invaluable resource for addressing customer concerns.

Linux, OpenOffice, solid state drives, hanging onto XP, and thousands of other ideas will help Dell remain competitive with other vendors, and possibly retake the #1 spot in the PC industry.

I feel that those that have contributed great ideas should be rewarded for thier brilliance with great rewards!

So, what about it Dell, how about rewarding those that care the most?

XPS 720's for everybody! :)

I'm somewhat surprised they haven't tossed a "IdeaStorm" coupon of the same value of the ones they're running other places. (
http://www.fatwallet.com/cash-back-coupons/Dell-Home-Systems ).

This wouldn't cost Dell much of anything because most IdeaStorm users would probably find the same value coupons somewhere anyway.

mmmmm... either I OVERLOOKED that "trading in your Points" bit OR I just took that as a reference to the ACTUAL, judged QUALITY of posts, which would make sense. Certainly, the 'point accrual' would be fairly meaningless. HOPEFULLY, Dell is doing MUCH more than merely looking at the number of votes to determine what is worthy of review and action and what is not.

It will be difficult to remedy.....like learning the special attack in Mortal Combat.

I've got an answer on the double-vote bug - it happens when we take the site down for a minute for scheduled maintenance... it's usually only down for 30 seconds, but if someone votes at the moment it comes down, it may be counted twice. There are only a handful of instances of this, but we're working on the fix. Thanks.
