Need more compact and stylish notebook.

Dell notebooks are bulky compare to those notebooks from Sony or HP.

I don't know if "fashionable" is the right word, but I agree that Dell needs to work on the size of their notebooks. It seems that "thin and light" has been dropped by the wayside in favor of ten-pound monstrosities. I understand the need for high-powered desktop replacement notebooks, and I can understand why someone might want a massively overweight portable for gaming. However, your average road-warrior needs to run Office and some CRM app or other, then get on the Web and check email. While this can be done on a "thin and light" laptop with a 12" screen, it's not exactly productive, Then there are those of us who travel that need larger screens for viewing and editing drawings and using multiple windows, but don't want to hire a sherpa to haul the current generation of brick notebooks around.

I have an Inspiron E1705 that is actually thicker than my old WinBook FX, which is eight years older. For a while there were several thin notebooks in Dell's lineup, but they've pretty much vanished.

I would dearly love to see Dell market a thin - less than 1" - notebook with a 17" widescreen. Taking it further, it would be fantastic if the majority of Dell laptops could be reduced in thickness, reversing the recent trend of ever-expanding unportability.

Now that, enkotec, is a pretty good thought.
