Hardware Encrypted Latitude D Second Drive Module

70 points posted to Latitude products, Servers and Storage, Laptops by busybub 04/19/07

Given the problems with theft of laptops and privacy concerns regarding the data held on them, how about a SATA based, Second Drive Module for the Latitude D slot which has 256bit+ hardware encryption requiring a physical encryption key to be plugged into it in order to access it?

While encryption could be built into the laptops, using a Second Drive module would provide an option for those that want it, without increasing the cost for those that don't. They could also be used with USFF desktops, or for secure backups.

Physical Encryption Key? That sounds pretty cool!

Could be a good product, if well thought about.
