There is wild speculation about Dell's rational behind removing the above posting going on at Slashdot (http://slashdot.org) and other geek news websites. To this I have a request of Michael Dell: Please re-consider your company's decision to edit posts of this nature. A non-offensive, negative post is just that. It's not about flaming Dell, but about censorship.

Be careful of what you wish for. Remember, Linux geeks are very much in the avant-garde of the decision-making process. Turning them off could backfire and turn them off Dell.

The answer is clear: there's a serious demand for Linux. There has been for years. The hassles of installing, getting drivers and setting Linux up cost time and money. Pre-configured Dell product with Linux installed is starting to make sense on both the corporate and the advanced home front. Every previous time there has been a Linux-based Dell, it has been only for left-handed, piano-playing fishermen and buried so deeply in your order system that even your programmers can't find it.

Ballmer is Ballmer. Of course he is going to rail at the potential to open up his bottom line to competition. The question is: are you a commodity hardware vendor or are you in the business of selling software to the exclusion of future corporate growth?

Let's see some action, not obfuscation.
