Laptop Port Rethinking

219 points posted to Inspiron products by ari_g 02/20/07

I have been using an Inspiron 700m for almost two years now, and I wish that some of the ports were either different, or arranged differently. Most notably, the headphone port; it is in the very front of the laptop when you are using it, which makes it very awkward to have headphones plugged in while resting the laptop on your lap.

After that, and I think that this is true for almost all laptops, dropping the standard VGA video output in favor of either a DVI or some sort of mini DVI output, much like the Apple laptops. I say this because it is not difficult or expensive to have a dongle/adapter to go from the DVI standard to VGA, S-Video or Composite video. Add to that the fact that a mini-DVI port would take up less room than a standard VGA output.

To be fair, these are minor things, and I have been quite happy with my little Inspiron!

It's about more than just video and headphone jacks...
